Well i think TOM’s rant went a bit overboard LOL

Discontinuing xserve doesnt mean they dont care about the pro market and no i HIGHLY doubt they will discontinue mac PROs soon.

What many people don’t realise is that computing itself is changing, Years ago, the power that we have today in a mac mini was in PRO workstations and touted as the fastest thing ever.

Things will change and form factors will change no matter what u think, soon even the fastest open(whatever) GFX card will get small enough to fit on a credit card. and if all these things get smaller anf faster why the heck will u need PCIe slots for?(in their current form anyway)

Look it obvious FCP X is not up to par just yet, i agree. I use OMF & XML literally all the time and its not there. Color, or at least some semblance of it has been absorbed into FCP, although i will argue STRONGLY about it because it does not seem to have all the control Color had, (CURVES etc etc)

Apple does care about the pro market without a doubt. MY gripe with them is, Why the F)*&(*& would you go sell a pro app that is a down grade in functionality from your previous version and tell me you are working on it.
Work on it first and then bring it to me please. to me this is an evaluation/beta version that was sold to people. I truly don’t agree. give the app to your partners like AJA, BMD etc to rewrite drivers for it. if you wanted to wait till LION came out then cool …. wait, that’s right around the corner.

Don’t make people buy something that is not ready. The idea im sure is for people to get used to the new paradigm, but you cant do that without certain functionality. not at this stage in the game

I think the new features are great (Timeline, speed, nesting blah blah) but we pros need just a few extras, fix it and we are there and wont turn back. And if you are integrating color, really do it, dont just give me a color pad. (lift gamma gain).

OK so FCP X for me will be an Evaluation/Lets get accustomed to the new workflow app.

Then 1.5 will come out and ill use that for my pro work. I need my Kona card, XML & OMF on a constant basis so ……..

I think that was the idea apple had anyways, ill wait no probs

Hey Thanks David:
saw this elsewhere as well. But ill be sticking to FCP 7 till i see XML export, which i use alot, is in or there is some other way of sending video out.
In another thread someone suggested that project files (if there are any) may be xml based and therefore transferable between apps …. lets see…

Yup seems color has been absorbed.

So im getting da vinci…… i really do think grading should be done in a seperate app altogether.
No R3D support sucks but may very well be a good thing, we’ll see DID NOT see any mention of XML import or export, correct me if im wrong

gonna be using a Sound devices pix box to record Prores out the HDMI, so need to power that as well so im getting this splitter:

and may need to power a monitor as well, but ill wait to see how good the PIX monitor is.
