I didn’t think direct transfers worked. I believe you need to use the XDCAM explorer (the content management utility) to stitch the files together and to wrap them properly in your preferred container, be it mp2, m2t or mp4.

The only time Vegas will not do transitions properly is when the 2 events are not butted up right against each other. All it takes is a gap of 1 frame and the transition will not work, and will only apply to 1 event. When the two events butt up, a blue line appears.

Having quantisize to frames on will interfere with this.

The only time I overlap events manually is when the default fade/x-fade is not long enough and I deliberately manually tweak it.

  • Vegas should ask where the media files are upon opening, and then offer to do the same for the remaining files and automatically relink them.

Other than that, go into disk manager and reassign your external drive to F:

24″ for the time line and 32″ for the preview (I do a lot of multicam work). A single monitor with a tiny preview makes it hard to colour correct/grade and choose takes properly.

    I use a GTX 570.

My back up system uses a 21″ screen with a USB video adapter which I hook up to any HDMI display.

I did try once to hook up my system to my 46″ LCD TV, but had to sit at least 9 feet away!

February 13, 2012 at 2:34 am in reply to: Video Blur issue while using pan/crop.

Whilst using pan and crop to zoom is one method of ‘zooming’, it is a digital effect added afterwards and has its limitations. I have zoomed in as much as 20%, but I find strobing and artefacts start to creep in, becoming especially noticeable when there is camera movement such as a pan.

If they are shown on the web, they might not be as noticeable due to the smaller viewing screen. Unless it is really bad, no one will probably notice except you.

You may have unintentionally done a pan/crop at the track level. Have you been playing around with track motion?

Does it happen in a brand new project?

Neatvideo, although you have to be careful not to overdo it

I am pretty sure the NX5U has its own content management utility which allows you to determine the container to use e.g.mpeg, MXF, m2t etc. You then copy the files and/or import them into Vegas.

February 10, 2012 at 3:20 am in reply to: Avi FILES Sony Vegas Platinum 11.0

Use gspot to identify your codec. It may already be installed, but the file used to create the AVI file may not have followed those specifications closely. I would seriously avoid installing any Codecs other than the one’s Vegas ships with. It is not working for a reason.

“I have one PC that reliably crashes while running Vegas Pro 11 – if I open the F/X window twice. None of my other PCs do this, so I am looking at that PC’s hardware and drivers for the solution. I do NOT expect SCS to fix my PC.”

Stephen, that’s great if you have the luxury of more than 1 PC… .
