  • Video Blur issue while using pan/crop.

Posted by Jeff Bieber on February 13, 2012 at 1:06 am

I’m shooting a classroom with two sony hxr-mc50 cameras. One camera is stationary pointing at the students. I’m shooting this at 1920 x 1080 @ 24Mbps.

While zooming in on the students in VP 11 I get some blur/artifacts. I have added a bit of sharpen which helps some. Is there any suggestions to improve this? This project doesnt have the budget for a second camera man.

These videos will eventually been shown on the web.

    Thank in advance.

Whilst using pan and crop to zoom is one method of ‘zooming’, it is a digital effect added afterwards and has its limitations. I have zoomed in as much as 20%, but I find strobing and artefacts start to creep in, becoming especially noticeable when there is camera movement such as a pan.

If they are shown on the web, they might not be as noticeable due to the smaller viewing screen. Unless it is really bad, no one will probably notice except you.
