Are you registered with magix? It helps if they have your serial numbers on file which should have been transferred from Sony, then you will get the proper upgrade pricing. When you click on upgrade it then checks your eligibility and offers the lower price. I was getting offered $249 for vegas pro. If you can’t see your serials on magix, then that us where the problem lies

  • In short: 11 minutes 19 seconds using v14 and 9m 35s under v15 under the same conditions

Check out the official Magix forum… Vegas 15 is probably more evolutionary than revolutionary. I am not convinced that the upgrade is worth it personally

$249 to upgrade to VP15 and $349 for the VP15 suite which includes DVDA. Looks like I have to stump up for a new video card as my NVidia 500 series card does not cut it any more. Perhaps it’s time to go down the Radeon path as Nvidia acceleration has never worked for me in any version of Vegas… .

[Louis Butts] “Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

    Edit: I have a GTX 1050 Ti “

Disable ‘Render using CUDA if available’ under Encode Mode. I think the choice is ‘None’

    Peter

I am a die hard Vegas Pro user but also looking at alternatives as Vegas Pro really hasn’t improved since v13 IMHO. I just can’t edit using the graphics acceleration stably under Vegas.

I can run Resolve 12.5.6 okay, but the 14.0b.6 Resolve free beta goes as far as the Project Manager and then…nothing. There is no error or warning. The setup screen did say my graphics card is a bit underpowered, but should be okay for HD.

Does Resolve recognise Intel Quick Sync or is that too underpowered?

[Stephen Crye] “Does anyone know if Magix is still monitoring this Creative Cow forum”

Magix have their own forum so I don’t see why they would be monitoring this forum other than to promote their products. If Vegas Pro 15 does not hit the mark, I am making the transition to a different editor. I have been using Vegas since version 8. I stayed on version 11, avoided 12 and only just recently moved to 13. Neither Sony not Magix are able to get CUDA to work consistently in either preview or render, so I disable it for both, defeating the purpose. For me, that was and is the deal breaker for me.

I am of the opinion that Magix purchased Vegas from Sony to gain access to the intellectual property and user base so that they could boost their own Magix video editing product lines, and Vegas will morph into Movie Edit Pro at sometime in the future. You see it happen all the time in the IT industry. It’s hard to fathom how Magix are able to continue to maintain two competing video editing products, let alone sustain the two support and development teams.

I doubt the upgrade to VP15 will be free for 14 users. It may be discounted slightly, but if we look at Magix’s upgrade pricing strategy compared to Sony’s, it is at a higher price point. I could typically upgrade Vegas under Sony for US$139 if I was very patient. Under Magix it has not wavered from US$249. I think Sony would initially offer it at US$199 and then sneak in a lower price point to entice you to purchase if you were reluctant. I think a sale at a lower price point is better than no sale. A sale at a lower price point means you have another customer hooked into the next product upgrade cycle. I think the Magix marketing team needs to rethink their price point strategy.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day over.

[Roger Bansemer] “Mercalli stabilization making the event less stable rather than better?”

Hey Roger, I think you might be on to something here! How to make good footage look like it is handheld, Blair Witch Project style! Ha! Ha!

  • [Paul Smith] “My guess would be that Vegas was also rendering the 2nd video track with all its effects even though it was “hidden” by the 1st video layer”

You can have multiple video tracks in Vegas stacked one on top of the other and it should not affect the render time. I frequently stack 4 x 90 minute tracks up. 36 hours is an extraordinary amount of time to take. Your rig is quite decent so you are possibly doing something unusual in the render or using a third party plug-in for Vegas perhaps. I would expect it to take max 180 minutes. 2 pass is something I would do if I was rendering to deliver on DVD but not for the Internet. I would try it without 2 pass and see if you can notice the difference. I even find that 720p is just as good for most purposes.

You machine being unresponsive except for a regularly flashing HDD light would indicate to me that the system has completely crashed. A normal drive in operation does not poll that regularly.

If your monitor normally sleeps after a set amount of time and the operating system then decides to crash, no amount of prodding the keyboard or moving the mouse will wake it up. The monitor will remain in its last known state i.e. off, until the system is restarted.

As I see it, you have two issues here that are separate.
