[Peter Chamberlain] “Note for DiskDB users: DaVinci Resolve 14.0b6 requires a DiskDB upgrade from any previous version. We recommend that you backup your existing database before performing an upgrade. Once you upgrade the database, you will not be able to access the projects from older versions.”

Does this mean that if 14.0b6 were to be installed in a system running 12.5.x, then no project will ever open in 12.5.x?

Projects made in or converted to v14 from previous versions are not able to be read in previous versions.

i recommend backups of your DB for protection and then make new DB to run the beta.

    Hi !
Just updated to DaVinci Resolve 14 beta 6 – my projects with mp3 audio background music and if I start a new project with mp3 audio – the mp3 audio file will not play properly – there are a lot of strange sounds!

If I convert my mp3 audio music files to wav – then there are no problems!

    Yours sincerely,
    Ole

It’s a bit of a difficult choice right now.
I’m working on a system with (dongle) DVR Studio 12.5.5, and we’ve had to upgrade to DVR Studio 14 because the VFX team needs ACES EXR files as ACEScg (AP1) which isn’t possible in 12.5.x. (at lease we haven’t found how). But a project created (or opened and saved) in DVR 14 can’t go back to DVR so if there are any showstoppers in DVR 14 we have no way back.

So, for the moment we are keeping two versions of the project, just in case.

I’m waiting for the DVR 14 to be a release version to make the final switch. Unless there is some way to do ACEScg in DVR 12.5.x

[Neil Sadwelkar] “Unless there is some way to do ACEScg in DVR 12.5.x”

How would this be a concern? If there is a difference in export (colorspace transform fidelity) then Is ACES really a unifying environment? My working understanding is that there is only a slight gamut difference, and cct is a “toe” response modification.

If ACEScg exr out is your only issue, you can contact Nick Shaw who sells a set of resolve DCTL’s for all aces flavors cross conversions. I used these for several vfx projects

    Peter

I am a die hard Vegas Pro user but also looking at alternatives as Vegas Pro really hasn’t improved since v13 IMHO. I just can’t edit using the graphics acceleration stably under Vegas.

I can run Resolve 12.5.6 okay, but the 14.0b.6 Resolve free beta goes as far as the Project Manager and then…nothing. There is no error or warning. The setup screen did say my graphics card is a bit underpowered, but should be okay for HD.

Does Resolve recognise Intel Quick Sync or is that too underpowered?

    My system specs: Intel i7 7700k 4.20 GHz, GTX570, 16GB RAM, Gigabye Z170 HD3, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 10 x64 Pro, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6
