I am using an LG with Shintaro BD-RE/BD-R discs. They are the only ones I can get in Brisbane Australia that are inkjet printable. Most of the inkjet printable stuff here is for DVD-R/+R and DVD D/L discs.

Brand new, they appear to be going for around $550, so second hand they would be going for significantly less. You might be better off just hanging on to the old machine for general use, surfing the ‘net, checking emails etc. You can keep Vegas installed on both, and use the HP as a backup if something should happen to your main editing system.
I also use multiple machines for burning discs if I need to churn out around 50 copies. Helps the time pass quicker!

I once had the pleasure of importing about 10,000 images for a time lapse sequence and found that Vegas started to choke and editing become very, very sluggish. I simply rendered out what I had on the time line and then brought that back into Vegas as a single event. I then was able to shorten/extend the duration using the usual CTRL-drag / velocity envelope methods.

Reingested from tape. All is good now with the audio, and strobing issue has gone away.

It will be great to see if DVDA allows you to control the burn speed and/or use multiple burners. Currently I author in DVDA and burn in Nero.

I am getting the tape posted to me as I noticed that the vision is strobing slightly whenever there is movement on the timeline. Looks like an interlacing issue that Vegas cannot overcome. It could be the HQ-AVI CODEC causing it. I’ll do a recapture from tape.
Is the 0xfffe audio CODEC fairly dated? The Edius editor made a comment on Vegas not being ‘new enough’ but my research indicates that it is quite an old CODEC that was around when Jonah was a boy.

Just be aware that if you intend to get serious and start working with other cameras such as the Panasonic P2, you will be unable to ingest the footage unless you have Pro. Of course, you can always start with the consumer version and see if you like it then upgrade later for a small cost.
The Pro version also supports Smart Proxy editing

“Hannah, interesting that you should mention that. I opened up a v10 project last night that I had started in May 2012 and net notify finally offered me the $139 deal.
I have, however, upgraded to 10 and 11 in previous years like a typical lemming, but I think you are on to something. I’ll try it next year with v13 🙂

I found it was not included on the low end models below $600, but appeared on the higher spec’d and higher priced models. It has been at least 12 months since I last looked.
Do you have a card bus slot? Any slots?
