If your laptop has an express card slot you can get a firewire adapter. That’s the route I took. I purchased the laptop with this is mind. Hopefully you have an express card slot.

You don’t need to transfer the project. Just copy the .m2t file from wherever you imported it to. You can transfer the file via external USB HDD.

I believe such devices do exist but are quite expensive. I think a firewire recorder will do as you suggested.

I am surprised your HC1 has lasted this long. My HC3 tape transport has just failed after about 300 tapes and 6 years of service and my flip out screen displays pink unless I fold it flat up on the camera body. Both are known issues, but given its age and distinguished service record, I am not surprised. My Z1P’s tape transport suffered a similar fate, but I use a Datavideo DN60 CF card recorder.

The only addition I can make to John’s excellent advice is changing your book type to DVD ROM in IMGBurn or Nero for your dual layer discs during the burn phase, to ensure maximum playback compatibility with commercial DVD players out there.

It may help to explain your workflow to isolate where the problem lies. I use DVDA to create the DVD image, but then use Nero to do the disc burn as I found DVDA would either make coaster after coaster that could not be read on any player, or would sometimes lock up the PC, or the burn would never actually finish and the burner would keep on burning ad infinitum.

Start with a small and simple project, say 5 minutes, and take me step by step through your workflow to create the finished product (DVD). I work in 1080i HDV PAL and have done a number of weddings so I totally understand your pressure. I will try and help you through this. I still don’t know where the failing is in your process.

I do question your decision to use Vegas when you do not appear to be fully conversant with the product. My first wedding was in Vegas, which I did for nothing (as agreed) and it took me 100 hours to deliver the product. What were you using before Vegas? Can you resort to that whilst you learn Vegas as a fall back position?

Prior to using Vegas I used Pinnacle, dabbled (briefly) with Avid Liquid 7 before settling on Vegas Pro. I have not looked elsewhere since. Vegas has some stability issues occassionally, but it has never failed me once.

If you are rendering from Vegas and then importing into DVDA to create a DVD, and that is not being read in your DVD player, it would suggest that your discs are being burned at too high a speed.

I use Nero to burn my discs and never burn at speeds over 8x. I recently tried 16x and my DVD’s were unplayable in most players. I burn to DVD-R media.

In DVDA, you also need to select the PAL 16:9 template to begin with. I think both Vegas and DVDA default to NTSC upon first install for project properties, so you will need to change/check that.

This forum has tutorials, but they assume basic knowledge, and tend to cater for American audiences i.e. use NTSC settings, which does not help if you are delivering in PAL:

Like I said, this forum is supported/contributed to by volunteers who all paid the same for the product, just like you did, and we all have livelihoods and deadlines to meet. Graham’s advice is actually quite helpful given the very limited information you provided. Your particular question has been answered quite a few times, so you might want to consider using the search feature in future. Given that you have not yet noticed the search tool on the forum, use this as a guide. For project properties, use:

HDV 1080-50i (1440×1080, 25.000 fps)
Deinterlace Method = Blend Fields
Select Adjust Source Media to better match project or render settings

When it comes to rendering, select Render As, then choose MainConcept Mpeg-2, and from the template list, choose DVD Architect PAL Video Stream.
Select Customise Template then go to the Audio Tab and tick include audio stream
