Whilst the EULA says that, Sony seems flexible! My 2nd (backup) editing PC died and when I tried to register SVP11 online, it would not work. I contacted Sony support and explained what happened and what I was trying to do, and they reset my counter. This would have been about 2 months ago,

[Kevin McCarthy] “render exceeds max file size”
Just out of curiosity, are your hard drives formatted to fat, fat32 or ntfs?

April 2, 2015 at 7:52 am in reply to: Vegas 11 silently crashing when rendering to DVDA PAL templateThanks Dave
The temp folder under system32 doesn’t contain anything that looks Vegas related (it only had 1 file time stamped 2009), and the one that is under c:\windows is inaccessible to me, even with admin privilleges. Windoze will not grant me permission to this folder.
My vacation is nearly over. I’ll copy the veg files to my usual editing PC and render using my 64 bit later version of Vegas.

If you are using GPU accleration under video preferences, you might want to try turning it OFF

February 19, 2015 at 12:52 pm in reply to: terrible rendering speed on our extreme hardwareYour render times will be affected by the number of tracks you have (including empty ones) and the video effects being applied. For instance, if I use my NeatVideo plugin on 1 hour of footage, my render time can be well over 2 days, but without it, about 30 minutes.
I edit a mix of HDV and AVCHD in a 4 track multicam project, and pretty much get 1:1 render times, even with colour curves and minor colour corrections applied.
I have also found GPU video acceleration in Vegas to be so poorly implemented, I disable it under Preferences. My render times have actually IMPROVED!

What is your source? AVCHD, DV or HDV? AVCHD is the most processor intensive to play back, and the only real solution is to buy a system with the fastest CPU you can afford. You really cannot edit multiple tracks of video smoothly with anything less than an high end i7 CPU. I edit 4 tracks of multicam with a mix of HDV and AVCHD video sources and my system only just keeps up. The preview is a bit laggy, and I switch between Preview Full and Draft Full
You could use a product such as Gear Shift to create proxies, or upgrade to Vegas 13 which I believe has a native capability to generate proxy files.
