You could try adding a touch of contrast and using colour curves to reduce the washed out look, but note that that would apply to the overall image. I have shot outdoor weddings where you have such huge contrasts and had good results.

In future, you might want to consider using a neutral density filter for outdoor shoots such as this.

Thanks John. I mainly deliver in DVD here as well, but I have noticed that the duplicators are starting to thin out. I have to go to another state 1000 km away sometimes to get a big job done.

For smaller jobs I do myself, I used to be able to go to the local audio-visual store and be spoilt for choice in DVD blanks, but now it’s usually just down to one or two brands.

I think delivering on MP4 in 720p or 1080p is far superior quality-wise and much easier for me to deliver, but a lot of the times people want to be able to find just their performance, hence the query about a menuing system. A lot of people watch it on TV’s or media centres nowadays, so don’t have the ability to quickly navigate like you do on a PC.

The closest I have seen this being done was a normally authored DVD (with a bit of room to spare) then we added a folder for JPG’s at the highest level. The DVD still played, but the images were only viewable on a PC. That’s what the client wanted, so that’s what we gave them 🙂

This is a contemporary choir group with soloists and the delay does sound good with the choir (adds ambiance) but slightly odd with the soloists, so I have gone with the sync audio to sound feed option. One thing I did was add 25% right pan to the sound feed and 25% left pan to the mic audio and it actually balances up and sounds really well. The shotgun mic on the Z1 is my trusty Sony electret condenser ECM 674 which has faithfully recorded the auditorium sound and lifts the line audio which sounds a bit flat due to the lack of ambiance.

I don’t usually bother this much with audio for plays, but the musical director was very particular about getting the sound right. Given she didn’t have the budget to do a proper post mix, the combination of line plus mic and the audio pan seems to have done the job. Sounds great on the headphones as I edit!

I agree with John. That’s what I would do, too. He has also simulated prime lenses with his footage to get that depth-of-field cinematic look.

Hmmm…that’s interesting. I have been adding event level FX for color correction/grading since Vegas 9, but my multicam editing has always been with your Ultimate S plugin. It lets me do it this way. Have I been doing it wrong all these years 🙂 ??

My Windows 10 experience has been varied. One laptop, a Dell, upgraded flawlessly. The other, an Asus, seemed to install, but upon initial restart, dimmed the screen right down to 0%, making it look like nothing was working. Took me a while to figure that one out, needless to say. When it finally did upgrade, my system started crashing and would NOT let me roll back. So I wiped it completely, reinstalled Windows 7 and then upgraded to 10. After I got EVERYTHING reinstalled, Windows 10 would inexplicably freeze. I did not have a 3rd party anti-virus (used Microsoft’s) and disabled all startup programs. That worked for about 2 days. Then the freezing started again. I wiped everything again and went back to Windows 7 and it has been rock solid ever since. Unfortunately, nothing in the event logs gives me any clues.

I have another editing system (this PC that is in my message signature) that uses legacy PCI drivers for a 3rd party SATA controller that was inherited from Vista. I would love to upgrade that system to Windows 10, but I really don’t have a compelling reason other than to stay current. I am also nervous as this system has a motherboard based RAID 1 and RAID 0 disk subsystem, and if that fails, I am truly screwed. No Windows 10 roll back option if that happens * sigh *.

I have a GTX570 and my experience with it and Vegas has not been good. When video acceleration was enabled, Vegas would often hang for no reason. My renders were also terribly slow.

After disabling the video acceleration, my editing was rock stable and I got at least a 1:1 render time, usually less.

I found that when I first installed the card, my preview performance improved only marginally. When I later updated my CPU from an i7 920 to an i7 970, that made the most difference.

I also found that the latest Nvidia drivers are unstable (application faults, driver crashes and recovery), and have rolled them back to the stock drivers that Windows 7 installs.

The Z1 has 3 CCD’s. I just found the EX1 image grainy in low light situations, plus I have had lots of gamma issues with the EX1. Purple satin fabric would come out ruby red and almost flat. I found it a very difficult camera to match with my Z1.
