October 2, 2015 at 10:21 pmYou need to apply the effects to the events (what Vegas calls a clip) while it’s in the project media tab. As you already found out, you lose everything you apply on the timeline.

October 2, 2015 at 10:40 pmAs Mike was pointing out, any color correction needs to be applied to the Media while it’s in the Project Media bins. Media FX will not be affected by multi-cam. Do not attempt to add any FX to individual Tracks or Events until you build the master multi-cam track. Then you can treat that Track like any other.

October 3, 2015 at 3:42 amIf you CAN’T get too close with the corrections, then consider blowing the worst Events using a completely different tack/approach like Black and White or overly colour -rich and use this “cutaway” as a more narrative-rich option. I’ve done this and it works.

What you need to understand is that you can apply FX at 4 different levels in Vegas Pro:
- Event FX
- Track FX
- Media FX <– You want this!
- Bus FX
All you need to do is right-click on the event that you want to color correct and from the pop-up menu select Media FX and then apply the Color Corrector that way. Get the video looking the way you want and then use the multi-cam function. You can even do that now to the multi-cam events you have already created.

Hmmm…that’s interesting. I have been adding event level FX for color correction/grading since Vegas 9, but my multicam editing has always been with your Ultimate S plugin. It lets me do it this way. Have I been doing it wrong all these years 🙂 ??
My system specs: Intel i7 970, GTX570, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

October 4, 2015 at 2:45 pmFor shorter subjects, I just use multiple tracks for each camera angle, and group the takes. Then using a blank top track for selection, hitting S for spilt, selecting the top down events you do not want to see and muting them. I find this works more fail safe than then popping in an out of the multicam view. Plus it keeps all your options open as far as applying FX. The blank top track for selection cuts all tracks below vs just the clip on the cursor.
I find the Multicam useful for long event type coverage type or TV program type editing. Also if you perform CC on your camera angles before, and then just use Multicam just for cutting.
Maybe changing the order of the way you do things might help too. Apply FX after the cutting is done. Then expand the tracks out of Multicam, which gives you basically the muted track view described above.

LOL! No, Ultimate S Pro doesn’t have the restrictions that Sony’s built-in multicam implementation does. That’s why people still use Ultimate S Pro and infinitiCAM.
Ultimate S Pro copies the events onto the master timeline. This is why the FX stay with the events when they are copied. Sony multi-cam combines the media from the events into a NEW event as Takes. That’s why Event FX get left behind and only Media FX work in the Sony implementation.
