I am experiencing similar issues. Rendered a DVD (total length less than 60 mins) of edited HDV 1080/50i PAL to DVDA template using a CBR of 8,000,000 and observed several pauses whilst previewing the video with the customer. I suggested their el cheapo DVD player was to blame and they accepted that excuse (for now).

My quality slider and video output settings are both set to 31/best in the render template. Might try reducing it to good.

Given your views, I would be more than happy to refer your case to Sony legal, and see if they share your point of view. You have acquired the software through dishonest means and have the gall to admit and defend it in a public forum. That’s either gutsy or extremely naive.

In the case of software development, it is piracy that denies the developer (Sony) of its right to receive income, after Sony has developed the intellectual property, Sony pays people to improve and support the product. You take away that incentive (i.e. income source), and R&D and support dries up, and eventually, the product is discontinued/desupported.

Think of it another way. You get a job in IT as a developer/support person. It could be your job and livelihood that is impacted by the dishonest actions of others.

If you want free products and equally free support, there are some good freeware video editing products out there:

    Thanks guys

I am actually helping someone out and we have been trying various things. He has Vegas 9 Pro but only cos it came with his NX5. He will use it to transcode footage to a HDV 1440/1080i intermediary file so that he can edit in CS4.

I did suggest the upgrade, but it ain’t cheap.

I am advising someone in an edit and he uses CS4. He has Vegas 9 Pro but only has it cos it came with the camera which he just got. He wants to edit in CS4 as he has lots of experience, so I am suggesting he uses Vegas to render it out as an HDV 1440/1080i intermediary file, and bring that into CS4.

We tried changing the audio to Dolby Digital on his NX5. Ingests and edits fine in CS4, but throws up a ‘transcode error’ during CS4 export. HDV is fine, so we are trying to get everything to HDV to start with.

His schedule does not permit learning a new tool, unless I do it, but I have 5 edits plus a regular job, and I am trying to keep it within his capabilities and tools (and out of my work load!).

Albert, Vegas is at version 10. You did not say which edition of Vegas you are using. Plus, not knowing your source footage and how it was acquired and what you are trying to render it to makes it difficult to assist you.

If you upgrade to version 10, you will be able to open and edit your project, but will not be able to edit the version 10 project back in version 8.

Sony Vegas is one of the most stable and reliable editing suites on the market. I have used other products and found Vegas to be a stalwart performer.

You might wish to consider completing your profile. Example follows:

    Intel i7 920, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10 (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

  • I do notice a short delay when starting up my 4 x 1 hour track multi-cam HDV projects (with Ultimate S Pro 4.1) when it appears nothing is happening (v9 used to give you a progress indicator in the bottom left of screen), but it’s usually under a minute. I don’t run Vegas within a virtual machine or dual boot configuration, so I cannot rule that out as the culprit.

I used to experience slow load times for certain projects in v9 because it was looking for media assets I had renamed or moved using windows Explorer, and not via the Project Media bin.

Vegas does not appear to ‘call home’ as I can open the same project on my standalone laptop at about the same speed.

    Thanks.

Any audio/video sync issues during export? I have since seen the Dolby Digital solution, but have come across other posts suggesting audio and video lose sync during export.

I had no problems with Vegas Pro 10 when I tested it. They sometimes locked up Vegas in version 9 when scrubbing along the time line and doing basic cuts, so I transcoded that to AVI.

I was aware of the Dolby Digital solution, but I have seen other posts suggesting that NXCAM footage loses audio/video sync during export. I am testing that theory on CS4 after changing the cameras audio settings.

    Pushpa

You may want to use the XDCAM explorer and play with export formats.

If you are the same Pushpa who used to be in QMM, I believe you still have my email address, and I can put you in touch with someone who has an EX1. Although he uses Edius, he can assist with the XDCAM explorer.
