Thanks for the quick response guys!

Seems I made 2 wrong assumptions.

    – I thought DV couldn’t output an alpha channel at the same time as video, but could send ‘just’ alpha. Luma works, but not quite as I want it to.

    – I thought using lower field first with animation would give me field problems on a monitor, as I’m sure this happened to me a couple of times before a long time ago. That doesn’t seem to be the case any more, so animation it is.

    Cheeeers again.

If you make your emitter a point, and set the ‘direction’ directional, rotating the Y axis of the emitter should give you the exact effect of a sprikler head…twisting look and all.

You can put an adjustment layer inbetween the two layers and ‘break’ the 3D space – forcing the object above the adjustment layer to always be in front of the layer below it, regardless of position in 3D space.

Yep, exactly as was said above.

But also – their camera movements are a lot smoother than straight easy ease will give you, and their pacing varies – often fast acceleration and slow deceleration. You’ll need to play around with the speed curves in the graph editor to get similar results. It’ll take some time to get good with them but once you do everything will have far more feel to it.

July 30, 2008 at 8:47 am in reply to: Half D1 352×576, what is this?

Hi guys thanks for the help. Well, here is the full spec sheet…

    Audio

    Bitrate (Kbps) 192
    Type MPEG1 Layer 2
    SampleRate (KHz) 48
    Number of Channels 2

    Video

    Colour System PAL
Picture Mode Non Interlaced ( progressive )
Bitrate – VBR min, average, max (Mbps) N/A
    Bitrate – CBR (Mbps) 4
    Resolution Half D1 352×576
    GOP Structure: IBBP
    Closed or Open GOP OPEN
    Scene Change Detection YES
    Closed Captions N/A
    MPEG 1,2 or 4 MPEG 2

    Stream

    Stream Type MPEG2 TRANSPORT STREAM
    PIDS : PMT/PCR/Video/Audio pmt:500,pcr:3FE,video:3FE,audio:3FF
    Filesize segmentation Unlimited
    Media Format mpg

And is does specify ‘the video needs to be widescreen’ in the email I got. The video, apparently, needs to fit in to the box I’ve outlined in red here…

    Photobucket

So Ray, if I have this right, the suggested workflow will leave me with a 4:3 file? Hmmmm. I guess they must mean letterboxed. I tried the workflow, but can’t get compressor to output at that resolution and there are no presets…how did you get it to work??? It also needs to have audio in the final MPEG2 file, which is what I’ll be supplying them with…

    Thanks chaps
