Hi, I just started using Particular.

When I set keyframes for rotation in any emiter axis (x,y or z) (for instance 0 degrees on the first frame and 350 degrees one second later), I can see the effect of the rotation as I move the rotation control on a particular frame. But, when I scrub through the resulting animation, there doesn’t appear to be any rotation, even though the readout by the rotation control indicates that the emitter is rotating.

I was pointed to the following thread, which discusses the problem:
    https://toolfarm.com/phorumNew5/read.php?15,10116

The thread suggests that you can’t keyframe the emitter rotation. A suggestion is also made to try using “form” if you want to rotate the emitter. I haven’t been able to find a “form” control in particular.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

The answer to your question was given in the link you provided. Particular allows you to rotate the emitter. What I think you are wanting to do is rotate the particles aroud a center axis, which is different than rotating the emitter. The particles will not inherit the emitter’s rotation, but will continue along the trajectory you gave it in the velocity parameters. I hope this makes sense. You can rotate around the particles using a camera to give the effect you are after. The best way is to create a camera and a null object. Parent the camera to the null and animate the rotation of the null. If you need to know why I suggest a null, let me know. Unless you have other 3d layers in your scene, this will work. If you have other 3d objects you don’t want rotated, then you may need to use Trapcode Form. It is another plugin, not an option in Particular.

Let me know if you have problems.

    Best of luck

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the explanation. I actually wanted to rotate the emitter in the hopes that it would transmit the rotation to the particles. I want to get a a twisting effect as you have with a rotating sprinkler head. Unfortunately, rotating the camera doesn’t achieve this.

    Thanks,

    Eric

If you make your emitter a point, and set the ‘direction’ directional, rotating the Y axis of the emitter should give you the exact effect of a sprikler head…twisting look and all.

I found a solutions and its funny how its esay.. you have to keyframe the rotation in transfom world option 😀 😀

Jerry, yes, except it doesn’t work for a Y rotation (which I think is what the OP was looking for) the axis isn’t at the center of the particles.
    If anyone has a workaround…
