Well if you do it like they did, you need a chap with half an arm to do the punching…

I don’t think you can do this, as the 3D stroke offset function has no x, y or z data to attach a light to.

Parenting stuff to the 3D stroke layer won’t do anything because you’re just parenting to the solid the 3D stroke is applied to.

You can probably use particular with motion paths to achieve an identical effect though. Could take a lot of tweaking but it would work!

They both give very different effects really – although to describe them they sound the same!

Shine is a little more versatile, and probably has more uses if you’re clever with it. Light rays is quick and dirty but I haven’t found a massive amount of useful applications for it…

Basically, shine is well worth the money.

Particular all the way for the glowing balls. Get them following a path using the Motion path feature then glow ’em up using…glow!

3D stroke will sort you out for the lines. All camera-controllable if you need it to be..

More coloured glow with masks and blending mode experimentation should complete the vibe…

  • If the 3D lights don’t work you could possibly use an expression to tie your drop shadow effect to the camera movement so the direction rotates round when your camera moves? Dunno what expression that would be. So i am, in fact, not much help.

Aye, a great resource all round! I’m always checking back for tutorials – they’re a blast! It’s always good to see genuine enthusiasm for the field. Some vids can be dreadfully dour…

Buying and learning cinema 4D when all you need to use it for is giving depth to the letter O seems a tad like overkill to me!

Zaxwerks Invigorator will do exactly what you want – I’ve done the same thing a zillion times.

It’s cheap, relatively customisable, easy to use and made for precisely this kind of purpose. Go buy!
