OK. The track is not really a problem.Just completely confused about what is happening. In fact I just opened the project and it’s not doing the volume change any more!

I did not know about Normalise (Vegas seriously needs a menu makeover IMO), but I prefer to use an external editor. Audacity is so much more powerful and customisable.

First of all, what ARE your current settings and what are you using to render them…Vegas or another programme?

[John Rofrano] “It sounds like your DVD project is not set to 16:9 Widescreen. Check your project properties in DVD Architect.”

I quote the bit that works, but refer to other parts of your reply….

Arrgh! I did try DVD Architect rendering in Vegas (I work in PAL), because I realised that may be the cause and it made no difference…but again I am caught by those wretched File/Properties. Works fine now I have set that to 16:9. Actually that is interesting. In Vegas, as I have asked and commented upon, those settings have little to do with the actual render. Here they are critical.

    Thanks John.

March 2, 2013 at 1:43 pm in reply to: Why is Smart Resample default in Sony Vegas Pro?

“Because way back in the days of DV, Smart Resample use to almost always do the “right thing”. Today, with all of the different non-standard HD camera formats, it doesn’t always get it right. ”

I’m sorry if I misread you. I thought you said that it did work once, but different video formats …as sources… (“non-standard HD camera formats”) made it less than ideal. I was saying that no matter what format I used as a _source_, smart resample was still giving a lousy result.

It also does not seem to matter what frame rate or codec I use, it will cause blurriness.

Please tell me what I am doing “wrong”. You say that you leave Smart Resample set to On for all your projects? Well AFAICS it at the VERY BEST slows down render speed by a significant amount. If it works for the better for you, then that may be a price worth paying. If it makes no difference then it’s a waste of time. IME it makes whatever I render look worse.

Interesting thoughts John. But I have never done any work in Vegas using any source, from a dl’d Youtube clip to my own Full HD camera, that looked anything but horrid when Smart Resample is on and the output is Progressive.

OK. So you create the DVD files in DVDA, but burn elsewhere….interesting.

Is there a _reason_ you use DVDA to prepare? As distinct from other DVD prep software….
I do know I have found it tough to find programmes that let me save to disc, then burn and DVDA does that.

hmmm…yes…I have had less than stellar results, I have to admit. My last effort was fore a family funeral. Not sure what I used in the end, but it was not DVDA.

It was just that the OP said they had been OK until recently.

February 25, 2013 at 12:44 pm in reply to: AVC/MP4 optimum bit rate value to rendering interviews…

I am not sure this is correct. Bitrate is important. Pixels decide the square bits in the video. Bitrate decides the compression applied and thus the “smearing” that occurs due to compression, of colours and detail.

    Sorry if I misunderstand.

[Carl Lundell] “Cool, I don’t know how to use them. Is there a tutorial out there for this? I would like to try it.”

If you don’t have Pro, you can’t.

In every Project, regularly click the first clip in any Video track. Choose Select all events to end. Switches: Disable Resample.

Do it often. Do it before every render.
