I have made a video in Vegas Studio and set the No Letterboxing switch on. This works fine for rendered videos. But if I try to make a DVD,using either DVDA or another DVD maker, the result letter boxes anyway, putting a border around the entire video. Neither DVD programme has any switched alternative I can see to stop this. Is there some setting I am doing wrong?

I create the video as a 1280*720 16:9 video, pixel ration 1:1. That is the result I get on the DVD, just too small for the screen.

The Preview in DVDa shows the letterboxing (when I ask to Preview Current), but the timeline viewer does not show it.

    Any help appreciated.

[Nick White] ” But if I try to make a DVD,using either DVDA or another DVD maker, the result letter boxes anyway, putting a border around the entire video.”

Did you make a 16:9 Widescreen DVD or 4:3 Standard DVD. If you used 4:3 you will get letterboxing to fit the 16:9 video into a 4:3 aspect.

NTSC DVD Widescreen is 720×480 PAR 1.2121. You should be rendering with the DVD Architect templates under MainConcept MPEG-2 for DVD.

It sounds like your DVD project is not set to 16:9 Widescreen. Check your project properties in DVD Architect.

I quote the bit that works, but refer to other parts of your reply….

Arrgh! I did try DVD Architect rendering in Vegas (I work in PAL), because I realised that may be the cause and it made no difference…but again I am caught by those wretched File/Properties. Works fine now I have set that to 16:9. Actually that is interesting. In Vegas, as I have asked and commented upon, those settings have little to do with the actual render. Here they are critical.

    Thanks John.

If you were rendering to 1280×720 in Vegas then DVD Architect needs to re-render that for 720×480 DVD. That’s when it applies either 16:9 or 4:3 depending on the project properties. If you render to MPEG2 DVD Widescreen in Vegas first, then the project properties in DVD Architect will only affect the menus and not the actual video.

    Glad you got it working.
