  • There are so many possible ways to re-map functions to keys I’m sure you can find one that works for you and doesn’t create any problems.

I don’t find it a problem to use my right hand on the keypad since the mouse is right next to it, literally 2 inches away so the * and / work great for me.

  • I just assign the * and / keys on the keypad for zoom in and zoom out. Works fine with no problems and I don’t need to use any modifiers.

The arrow keys are way more valuable for nudging by frame and moving from edit to edit IMHO. I’ve used those keys for those functions for years and my muscle memory is locked in on them.

There are conflicts with other operations if you try to assign them to certain functions.

  • Good tip

  • After you favorite, hit tab to select the clip in the list, right arrow to show the favorite, down arrow to select the favorite and then enter to open text entry.

All you have to do is apply one of the presets to each clip and set the x and y values.

If you have three across you use the A1 preset on each clip and set the x values to 0, .5 and 1.

For 3X2 use C1 and set the X values on each clip to 0, .5 and 1 for left, middle and right and the y values to 0 for the lower row and 1 for the upper row. etc.

Not sure why you’re having a problem with Hawaiki. I use it all the time with no issues.

Are you using multiple sizes or all the same size?

I leave all the audio setting unchecked because they cause more problems than they solve. I don’t know what default is but is it possible that you had some of them checked?

I just checked a few DV files that I imported into FCP and they play back fine in QT player and Quicklook.

Is it really a problem when you can just skim and make choices right in FCPX?

What are your import settings? I have done this a number of times with no problems.

  • Glad to hear you figured it out. Creating a new user would disable all the third party login items. iTunes helper is a system function so it’s not that because I have that in my login items with no issues. You could try adding them back in one at a time to see which one is causing the issue. Good luck!

  • Ronnies method will rebuild the account. He mentions exactly what you are seeing. Poor performance under your account and proper performance under a test new user account. This line is from the page the link takes you to:

If the new user test works, what you should do next is to rebuild the existing user account. You can do this without wiping the drive. It can be a little scary, but it doesn’t take very long to do.
