  • Ah – great note. 4K, definitely.

  • Thank you all so much! I really appreciate each of your insights into the situation. I am definitely thinking carefully about being wise in making decisions. Mark, you’re SO right! These times with the kids are so crucial – it was really refreshing to hear that.

There are more external factors to the decision than can be easily explained, so it may come down to having to transition out of my current job from necessity. But your insights have helped me greatly as I consider various options to move forward.

  • Shane, what you say makes good sense when you lay it out like that. I think I get the logic now.

I guess what I’m really missing is the ability to easily work with sub clips and have everything named and organized in my project bin. If I don’t worry about the audio I can easily pull an interview clip into the viewer, subclip each interview section, and put all this into their appropriate bins.

If we sync audio first (which again, does make sense now that you’ve explained), I don’t see an easy way of retaining that subclip workflow. The other editors have been putting everything into a timeline to sync it, and then making nests for each interview section. That way we can name each nest, organize everything the way we want in bins, and retain sync. I would just rather edit 300 clips instead of 300 nests. Are we still making it harder than it’s supposed to be? Or is it usual to trade subclips for audio sync?

Thanks so much! Your knowledge has been super helpful!

Correct – importing it still in layers.

    Good questions all.

Frame size is the same. Resolution is 72dpi. The problem is the same after the video is rendered. The problem is not affected by the presence/absence of the Matrox Mini.

An excellent question and worthy of asking.

Viewing at full resolution. I can see the aliasing both in the editing window in Premiere as well as on the preview monitor being fed native resolution from the Matrox Mini.

  • Thanks all! Some great advice and clarification. I feel like I went from 0 to 60 in my research. Like Bob says, now it’s phone time…

  • I’m adding it to the list. Thanks!

So far I’ve come up with:
Final Share (which looks like it may be tailored to Macs only)
    SNS Evo
Promax Platform Studio (which looks like the bandwidth might be too limited for our situation – although I like the LTO build-in)
    and now Facilis

Greatly appreciate it! Any other thoughts?

Check for version compatibility. If you’ve got the latest of everything you should be fine – but there were some definite issues with Boris not working in FCP a year or so ago.

No, rendering and re-rendering didn’t change a thing in the behavior – it seems to be source clip related. A freeze frame off of one clip will retain color-corrected information, a freeze frame off of another clip will not. Very strange…
