i thought the only way to specify a transition as a default is to right click on it in the browser,
and choose “Make Default”

if you are not doing any further colour grading,
you could convert to Prores LT
there would be next to no difference in image quality.

but then again, Prores422 would not be too hard on your system.

if you are using FCP7 or under, definitely convert to ProRes422.
LT is a bit harder to grade, & might not be great for graphics.

that’ll be your master, then make whatever deliverables you need from that.

one angle of the multiclip will usually be shorter than the other,
i wonder if that is the problem?

however this issue sounds like the classic FCP subclip issue where it gets confused between the start of the media file and the start of the subclip.
the error or amount of slippage is the difference between the two.

if its a multiclip issue, Media Manager can be used:
– create offline
– dont delete unused
– base media file names on what ever is best for you
– and i’ve forgotten the command name, but there is a check box for taking multiclips back to the basic clip… ah yes, do NOT check “include multiclip angles”

collapsing multiclips does not do the trick, must be media manager.

for subclips, select all in timeline, Modify Menu > Remove Subclip Limits.

for subclips inside multiclips, you might have to go through both processes before making the XML.

I’m not totally across the 480 / 486 issues,

but in compressor you do have the option of PADDING to the source ratio
look in the geometry pane of the inspector.

this will ad 6 lines of black spread across top & bottom, and there will be no re-sizing on the original image

i’d say yes to that
if you work in a 50i sequence, all your moves will be 50i, and will jar with your 25p look

the 50i thing is often just a case of the setting on the HDCam tape (if you are delivering tape) and you can deliver a product that exists in 50i space, but where each field is identical.

i have heard however, that some places don’t want that,
in particular they like the end roller to be 50i

so it might be worth checking with whoever it is you are delving to

in my part of the world we don’t have to deal with pulldowns etc,
but could be that is your problem.

you have put 23.976 material into a 29.97 timeline,
isn’t it the case that the fields get re-distributed,
and you will get blended frames?

can you not work in a 24p sequence?

DUPLICATING the clips was a mistake

if you did not dupe he clips, the timeline instances of the clips would have followed your name changes
well, they SHOULD have if they had the proper master / affiliate relationship

start again.
as you have already made most decisions about what to call the clips,
doing it a second time should be a bit quicker

if you want to you can simplify the job by only working on the clips that are in the timeline.

i would advise you to COPY the edited sequence into a NEW PROJECT
select the sequence in het b rouser, and got TOOLS MENU > Create Master Clips.

this will give you just the used clips, plus the maser affiliate relationship would work.

FCPX deals with this scenario, i believe

in FCP classic, you need to make separate multiclips after each gap

OR
export timelines of spaced-out clips,
re-import those files and create multiples
of course you will lose reference back to the original.

or you could select all, and remove distortion,
but both these methods would affect clips that have deliberate distortion effects.

best is to copy into a sequence with the correct settings.
