1080 50i sequence settings question for 1080 25p footage
Hi guys,
I am looking for some clarification on sequence settings on a project I’m currently working on. My final delivery format is 1080 50i ProRes HQ Quicktime.
I have footage that is 1080 25p ProRes 4444 and graphics that have been supplied as layered PSD files. If i setup a sequence as 1920×1080 ProRes 4444 and drop my footage and graphics into it should i select upper field dominance and/or should i click on the advanced tab under ProRes4444 in seq settings and check the interlaced box in the Quicktime dialogue?
Also the layered PSD files that i have in my timeline obviously have their own sequence too, so should i match the settings in these sequences with the above settings? It seems the layered PSD files default to Uncompressed 10-bit 422 with no field dominance…(FYI the layered PSDs also have transitions btw layers)
My other thought is should i be editing in 1080 25p and then creating the 1080 50i file after export using compressor/episode?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i’d say yes to that
if you work in a 50i sequence, all your moves will be 50i, and will jar with your 25p lookthe 50i thing is often just a case of the setting on the HDCam tape (if you are delivering tape) and you can deliver a product that exists in 50i space, but where each field is identical.
i have heard however, that some places don’t want that,
in particular they like the end roller to be 50iso it might be worth checking with whoever it is you are delving to

Thanks Nick, I’ll see if can find out more info from the guys I’m delivering to. I think I probably will go down the cutting in 25p path as it seems to make the most sense from what you said.
