that’s a 160G file you are creating there, so yeah it doesn’t sound too far off

there is another command you need to use: Find Next track Gap

you’ll probably want to assign it a shortcut, or put it’s button in your timeline.

Flip for Mac is not

so you have a lot of wmv files in there?
that would be causing issues, i’d imagine.

have you tried removing all the non-standard media from the project?
(or a copy of the project, to be safe)

i’m pretty sure you can open your project in a way that does not open any timelines that were open when you last closed it.

if you are throwing multiple clips to the timeline, and they are not al the same format,
then FCP wont ask.

yes 28MB is definitely not a problem,

so the GoPro and compressed german footage are the number one culprit.

transcode and replace.

one way would be to use the Media Manager.

you can select all in timeline, or select the sequence in the browser,
open Media Manager
set it to COPY or to MOVE
all files wil then be in one location.
if you set it to RECOMPRESS, you’d be doing the batch transcode at the same time

but i’m pretty sure this is not a great idea as it would be moving the H264 media away from it’s original folder structure.
this could make it hard for finishing, where you might want to go back to the h264 and create high quality versions

there’s a chance you can use Log & Transfer to re-transfer just what has been used
IF the original card structure has not been messed up.
