FCP uses file name to locate the files.
it does NOT look for reel# or TC as a way of locating files.

there is a 3rd party app from Video Toolshed called FCP re-connect, i think, that CAN reconnect FCP timelines (and bins?) based on reel# & TC via XML

“I also noticed Under audio settings (pic below) you can choose :”

Those settings are for audio playback , not export

Exporting as aiffs is very inefficient: huge file sizes, no handles, no edits…
It’s a nightmare for sound post

OMFs are the only way to go.
If you cant do the whole thing in one OMF,
Then you need to split the sequence.

  • Your file is neither a DCP, the current standard for delivery to cinemas, but maybe not for all film fests;
nor HD-Cam, an HD tape format, common for broadcast delivery, and for some film fests.

  • But my main question is how do you establish sync in ffmpeg?

Does TC match? Then you can use that in FCP, too
Do they have the same start point? Then you can use that in FCP
Maybe you are using waveforms to sync, in which case you can do that in fcp via Pluraleyes,
    Or in FCP X

  • cant help wot the ffmpeg part,

    but in response to this:
“if the audio is accidentally moved out of place, there won’t be an offset count to catch my eye.”

after syncing, you select video and audio and LINK them (command L)
gotta do it one at a time.

to be totally thorough, copy the new linked clips into new bin.
These are your new master clips.
Then edit back into the timeline

“Takes up a lot of extra time”

    how so?
    why is ffmpeg so fast?
what is it using to sync the audio?
maybe FCP has something similar you are not aware of. (although i doubt it)

  • those grey lines are render indicators.
this audio clips have been rendered.

their settings don’t match those of the timeline’s

it might not be a problem
what is the provenance of those clips?

you look into QTchange, i think it is, from Video Tool shed

but in FCP an XL spreadsheet will not help

best and simplest way ios to line al your clips up in a timeline,
double click the 1st on into the viewer
Modify Mene > Timecode to bring up the modify TC window
MAKE A SHORT CUT FOR THAT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SAVE TIME!!!

hte tc field should be active, and in FCP you can add and subtract values in all TC fields,
so just +xx.xx.x (your offset) na dhitenter,
then enter again for the tc to be modified

you can copy paster that offest value too to save more time,

stay in the viewer, and hit the down arrow to take you to the next clip
    hit your Modify TC shortcut
    + (paste your value)
    enter
    enter

    down arrow, etc

are you sure you want to modify the TC of the clips?

    hi, Alberto.

“My shortcuts are: ‘F’ match frame (clip to the viewer) ‘Cmd + Option + F’ show me the master audio&video (including all channels) If I delete o change project no one of these will work. ”

im pretty sure that Option Cmd F will bring up the original master file of the audio, with all tracks,
you can then over-cut the track you want.
like avid, you have to make sure the audio is the selected track

when you aver cut, i think you can link hte new track in hte timeline and get preoer sync warnings if that should arise (which you wouldn’t get in avid, i believe)

however, one possible issue that will arise is that the clip you are working with in the timeline will not match frame with the new track, only what was in the original master clip

i did my first Avid job in years just a few weeks ago,
but i had good assistants working for me.
we found it best to work with clips with all the tracks, as we knew we would need them occasionally.
i edited with the mix rack , just by targeting only that track.

    is that doable for you?

we did initially create master clips w just the mix track (was a real hassle, too)
but while we could over-cut the multitrack, we would not get out-of-sync indicators.

on my last few films in FCP, i just bit the bullet, and cut w the multi track clips
ok on simple shoots, but a bit annoying on the last film wehre they got up to 11 tracks!

the is a 3d party app for FCP called Sync n Link
    check it out
you can cut w one track (even camera audio guide if your 100% confident TC matches, but if you are i have a bridge i can sell you)
anyway, you cut with one track,
export an XML, run it thru Sync n LInk,
and it gives you back a timeline w the multis in place.

i dont think these are genuine master clips, however,
it is mainly for finishing, or preparing for handover to sound post.

    re-render?

  • ” EXACT same timeline settings”

    are you sure?
have a look in the audio outputs pane of your timelines’ settings.
or open the audio mix tool, check the master levels of the timelines
