Compressor has lots of Mpeg presets, mainly in the DVD section.

i suspect that is also an OLD issue.
for the record, i avoid DRAGGING to the browser, as that can sometimes not work the way you expect it to:
it will go through a process of “Crating New Master CLips” and you can lose what ever formatting you’ve done in the timeline.
i tend to COPY to the browser.

this is not such an issue with synced and linked clips
but for the most part my methodology with them is slightly different again.

we go thru our synced timeline, and each clip gets linked,
opened into the viewer,
and made into a subclip.

this truncates any overlapping audio, which is just a preference of mine, it’s not essential.
the picture itself is not subclipped in anyway, so i don’t get the possible problems associated with that.
we use Quickeys Macros to to this boring and repetitive work.

Auto duck also offers the option of NOT creating new media.
you connect to media you have created yourself.

primarily the file names have to match.
the timecode must be the same.
and reel# while not essential is important.

maybe your new files should include the MTS
so: 00002.MTS.mov

use a simple file re-namer to do this as a batch
there are plenty around.
my favourite, R-Name is hard to find these days.

there are a couple of things you should have for moments like this
1. a backup of your preferences files.
2. A seperate FCP project that contains a copy of all your favourites

If you don’t have them, you’ll have to start over , Im afraid.

I think you maybe miss-heard
I’ve never heard that,
But more importantly, I’ve never had any problems with merging clips.
I do it all the time, and never have problems down the track

Perhaps you were thinking of subclipping,
That can cause some problems when interacting with other apps

yes, what is the format of the media from AE?
if your animations are using “Animation” codec, then they will play back the way you describe.
it’s data rate is very big.

well you’ve deleted the files from the drive.
hard to get back.

i guess you could try.
make sure you don’t do ANYTHING more on that drive.
and give it to the data rescue team along with the other one.

from FCP your best method is to export using the default “current settings”

then take that file and run it though compressor to get the smaller file you want.
don’t forget to compress the AUDIO as well, that will save you lots of space.
dropping the frame size to 1280×720 will reduce your file size, too, while leaving you with a nice looking image

Quicktime Player 7 is also a good tool for converting/compressing a single file
Mpeg Streamclip is OK, but doesn’t have the option of AAC audio

you can do that but you will quite likely still run out or ‘render” and get the red bar.

you can change that to the orange bar by changing your RT settings from safe to unlimited.
do it in the RT menu top left of the timeline.
it won’t play great, but it will play.
