if you lower the speed of the audio clip, it will also lower the pitch, BUT it will be a different duration (longer),
so maybe that’s what made your clip go out of sync?

adding the Pitch Audio Filter should not affect sync
(actually i’ve seen it slip the sync by a frame on export)
this filter CAN NOT be scrubbed, so when it’s applied, if you try to scrub the audio, it will appear to be silent
it can only be played in real time.

a tip for this filter:
it takes a few frames to settle in. the first few frames will sound scratchy and crackly,
so trim the clip back 12 frames, say, or a second,
and volume graph that extension down.

Yes, i’ve used that CHV plug in, it does an OK job.

there’s another I know from a restoration job i did a few years ago: Furnace-core from The Foundry.
VERY expensive, and also discontinued, i now see.

I think resolve might offer some automated dust-busting, but I’m not sure.
i know it does a very slick job doing it manually: click a piece of dust, and it;s gone,
but you don’t want to do that for the whole film!

our externe cue on the restoration job was that we did a pass with furnace core,
which cleaned up a lot,
then had to zap a fair bit more manualy.
that’s pretty much the norm.

or constant dust all over ike ah old film print?

for a single 1frame blobs i’ve used Too Much Too Soon’s”Hair” (free, i think)

what does FCP tell you?

and how have you been doing the frame rate conversion?
using the Frame Controls pane in compressor?

actually there are quit specific formulas you need to use in there to get the best results.
i don’t know them, having very rarely to deal with frame rates other than true 24 or 25.
a fair bit can depend on if your source is interlaced or progressive, i beleive.

to copy “Attributes” from one clip to another:

copy the first clip the usual way (Command C)
select the second clip,
now Option Command V to Paste Attributes.

in your case you want to paste the Opacity.

(you can right or control click the clips and find these commands, but learning the shortcuts is way quicker)

the older FCP is a bit more particular about what files it plays.

yes it SEEMS to work: you can put these files in your timeline, and edit,
but when it comes time to export, there can be unpredictable issues, like sync being way off.

a quick fix could be to change your sequence’s settings to Prores, and render it,
then export,

that might work, or it might not.
h264 is rather unpredictable in FCP7

your WAVs should be fine, but mp3s are a risk in FCP.
i always convert to AIFF, it doesn’t take long using QuickTime player7
i’ve also got a Compressor droplet always close to hand, (in my finder window’s Toolbar)
that makes it very painless.

the simplest way forward, i suggest, is to not do anything differently at this stage.
finish your film in ProRes422HQ, it’s curent format.
when you have a PrHQ video master, make a copy as 4444 to keep your distributor happy.

i agree with the others: H264 is unpredictable in FCP7 and using it is asking for trouble.

however you should also check your sequence’s render settings.
have they been set to 50% Quality or less?
