    Hi,

My FCP7 has decided (I’m probably at fault) that it just won’t render any audio. It will happily play aiff audio, but the majority of my clips are MP3 or WAV.

I’ve tried all the various render options for both the sequence or an individual clip ie Sequence > Render Selection > Audio

I realise I can convert audio to aiff but I don’t want to have to workaround all future audio if there is a fix I’m just not seeing. One more nudge toward FCP X? 🙁

    Thank you in advance,
    James

there the render options under Sequence > Render Only.

your WAVs should be fine, but mp3s are a risk in FCP.
i always convert to AIFF, it doesn’t take long using QuickTime player7
i’ve also got a Compressor droplet always close to hand, (in my finder window’s Toolbar)
    that makes it very painless.

Thanks Nick, will give it a go.

Why are mp3’s a risk? I thought FCP was designed to stomach all manner of files, let alone such a common audio type.

the older FCP is a bit more particular about what files it plays.

yes it SEEMS to work: you can put these files in your timeline, and edit,
but when it comes time to export, there can be unpredictable issues, like sync being way off.
