gigabit ethernet is a good way to transfer files.
it;s fast enough to transfer media files painlesly,
and the project files will fly over.i worked like that last year.
my assistant and i had matching sets of our media on 500gFW drives.
she had logged & captured, and transfered the media over to me.
she could assemble secenes, and hand her project over to me,
or i could send my projects to here for her to make exports and preview copies.it helps if the media has exactly the same file structure on the 2 drives.
if the drives afre also NAMED the same, then there should be no reconecting required, either.it’s also possible to have the media from one system open on the other, but you wont get smooth playback.
OK for checking things, though.of course you need to get a second FCP lisence as well as the hardware.

if you logged and captured as smaller clips, you can
Select the sequnce in hte browser,
Apple F to open hte search window
Search for: Unused Media in selected sequnce
when it gert presented in hte search results window,
select it all,
SHIFT D (for delete) to open hte make offline wiindow,
move to trash.
check that your sequnce hasnt been afrected (it shouldnt be, but best to be sure)
then empty the trash.if you did whole-roll captures, then Media Manager would be the best bet.
DONT use “Use Existing” mode
Use COPY mode, check the results, then manualy delete the original files using the Make Offline window
Media Manger isnt perfect, and Use Exising is a one way street: if somewthing goes wrong, you’re toast.nick

well, i just put the disks in and did what i was told.
i’m talking FCP Studio here.compressor wouldnt work.
i had to uninstall everything,
then i installed everything EXCEPT DVDSP, and Compressor.
then instaled DVDSP
then Compressor.NOW it works.
if i have to install from scratch again,
i’ll be doing it in this order.nick

ok, if it’s not working on DV material, then something is broken.
DV works for me.

there is a better way than “cutting chunks”
keep your 1st 2 tracks as your source clips.
make sure they are level sync at the head and tail
option shift drag ONE of them up to a new track, this is your edit track, so make it the target track.now when you want to switch, mark an in point in the timeline,
with the playhead parked anywhere after the in point,
double click either of your source clips into hte viewer.
then simply hit F11 to do a “replace” editthe new shot will replace the existing one from hte in-point onwards.
a note about replace: in/outs in viewer have no effect,
in/outs in timeline do.
in/outs in timeline take precedence in defining the cut, next defining thing is clip boundaries:working like this, it’s good to have gang mode set to “Follow”
that way you can scrub in hte viewer, or timeline, and the other window will follw your playhead position, so when you do the replace, your shot is still in sync.cheers,

i know AIFFs DONT get trimmmed in a MM operaion, which is OK as they’re so small.nick

anyone used this new Pitch filter yet?
what is the scale?
it’s not in semitones, or percentage…
i need to drop pitch on some audio on 24 fps material conformed to 25fps.

use a strobe filter as well.
if you;re NTSC, a strobe setting of 2 will aproximate a 15fps look.
a setting or 1.67 will get you pretty close to 18fps.cheers,

what you’re after ray, is a “normalize” plugin.
unfortunaltey, FCP doesnt come with one (vegas and premiere do, i beleive)Sound Track Pro might have that function.
