July 30, 2005 at 6:01 am in reply to: reconnecting to quicktime file

in an avid, where the app connects to clips via reel# and TC, what arjen wants to do would be possible.

i can completely see arjens situation, but it just is not possible in FCP, which connects clips to media via the much more fragile clip name / file name method.

arjen i think the quickest way would be to reconnect each clip manualy.
    what a drag!

select the original clips on a REEL basis: that is, select all the clips that came from Reel1.
    Reconnect.
you’ll have to direct each reconnect prompt to your recently captured Reel1.

in FCP5, for each clip you’ll have to click on:
    1 Locate
2 The file (it goes back to the previous location, so that’s not too bad)
3 Continue (you’ll get a warning, and a choice to continue, or cancel)

    hope there’s not too many.

  • no, FCP cannot do it.
however, im sure there would be ways to streamline your workflow,
    using keyboard comands, etc
what do you need to do?

  • yes, there IS a pitch shift in FCP5.
i cant remember if it’s in the AU filters, or the FCP filters, but it’s caled “Pitch”

it’s bristiling with controls, and i have no idea what they all do!

but one’s called “Pitch” or maybe just has a percentage sign.
    theat’s the one.

The gist of the discusion is that you have to RE-install FCP5 to get the update to work.
they’re not UN-installing first, jsut moving the app out of the apps folder, and re-installing.

bit of a drag, really, but seems like it works.

“they’d always dusguise the cut with some action.
place the cut right at the end or start of movement.”

    hmm that’s not good advice…

beter to cut IN the action..
cut at the moment of most confusion..

you have to remember to UN-check the “include Master Clips” and “include affiliate clips” boxes.

if that;s not working then you need to contriol click on your sequnce before MM and “make Sequnce Clips Independant”
if you;re not finished cutting, you might want to do this on a copy of the sequnce.
another safe way is to copy the sequennce into a new project, (breaks the master/affiliate link), and MM from there.

    cheers,

well in the old show beweitched they were just jump cuts.

highly trained actors and crew pulled it off, i guess.
oh damn! i forgot the editors!

they’d always dusguise the cut with some action.
place the cut right at the end or start of movement.

costume changes would have had break-away clothes,
if the bigger outfit revealed a smaller one
(master pops out of space suit… oops wrong show)

of course therse days it’s easier to fool the eye with some distraction like some sparkles, or magic aura glow.
(anyone found that magic aura glow plugin yet?

and they’d probably use blue screen, to place actors on a more naturaly moving bg,
and morphing to twaak out any differences between hte frames.

July 7, 2005 at 12:21 pm in reply to: 4.5 to 4.0 and visa versa

you can use XML to move projects backward.

    see this article:
    https://www.lafcpug.org/Tutorials/basic_fcp5_to_4.html

but what’s to stop him upgrading to 4.5?

    it’s free.

i’ll confirm that FCP5’s MM wont delete unued from an offline sequnce, on;y from a sequnce with media atached.

    just like in FCP3.0.

they fixed that in FCP3.01, i think, so i hope this gets fixed, but how did it come back???
