I had FCP 5 for months now. Everything worked fine. Now I’m trying to update to 5.02 and after download it tries it gives me message saying: The update “Final Cut Pro Update” can’t be installed. Final Cut Pro update cannot be installed on this computer. This updater is only able to update and existing Final Cut Pro 5.0 or 5.0.1 application. Make sure the application is located in Apps folder and is called Final Cut Pro.
SO, I triple checked, everything is the way it should be. I have FCP 5.0 in apps folder. What you think is the problem?
    Thanks

    Hi Vlad,

A couple of us over on the Apple FCP forums had the same issue and a solution was found. Have a read of this thread:

Software Update will not update to FCP 5.0.2

Thank you for the link Mark.
I’ll try that at the end of the day.

I’m not sure why this is happening either, but I went to the Apple FCP web page and downloaded the update from there and it took.

I did the updates tonight and FWIW, everything worked fine(!?)
All software is on a new 2.3Ghz, all clean install. I repaired permissions, did the OS update first, restarted and did another permissions repair just for grins.
I then did the other updates and everything seems to have worked just fine. FCP loaded and ran OK as far as my very limited tests could determine.

I’ll be attempting the first “for real” edit on the system this weekend. I’m knocking on wood right now… 🙂

The gist of the discusion is that you have to RE-install FCP5 to get the update to work.
they’re not UN-installing first, jsut moving the app out of the apps folder, and re-installing.

bit of a drag, really, but seems like it works.
