yes, i have seen this in FCP < (less than) 7 good to know this has been addressed. (I can't update here in Aus as the shipment hasn't arrived!) no way in the world will this be retro-active... sorry. you could look thru your auto save vault to find the clip before you changed it's speed nick

best thing is to get the clips into BIN in the browser.
you can then do a batch export.
FIle Menu > Batch Export, or right or control click on the items or bin

so as not to tie up FCP, the best thing is to simply export as QuickTime Movies.
if there are no effects on the clips, then you can export as NON-SELF CONTAINED, or REFERENCE movies.
then take those files and run them though compressor.

if the clips are layered, or have rendered effects on them this is what to do:

make a COPY of your sequence, put it in a new bin.
go though the copied sequence defining the bits you want to export, either with in/outs (park on a clip, hit X), or by selecting.
make a NEST of this selection (option C)
name the nest, hit OK,
and it will appear in the bin along with the sequence.

when done, batch export as above.

do a search for your term in the Keyboard Layout window.

to compress:

select all the media,
open Media Manager.

– Recompress Mode
– Set to media format of your choice Offline RTHD in FCP6, new flavours of ProRes in FCP7
– DONT delete unused
– Base Media FIle Names on: Existing File Names.

probably best to ask for a new project containing the media

to go back:

– Create Offline Mode in MM.
– Set to Sequences to: your HD format
– DONT delete unused
– Base Media FIle Names on: Existing File Names.

you get a new project with a sequence full of offline clips (“offline” as in no media)
Reconnect to your HD.

yep.

as so n as you do that you are committing them to be limited by the frame size of THAT SEQUENCE

yes because you are now doing a blow up.

that sequence has a smaller frame size – less pixels.
if you scale it up… well, you know what happens.
if you change the frame size of it in it’s sequence settings, the photos will adhere to the scaling they already have,
same as copy/pasting into a larger sequence.

“How do I add a reel#? ”

in the browser’s Reel column.
to do a batch, it’s best to have all clips in one place.
easiest way to do that is in the Find Results window.

do a search in the browser.
this works for me:
Find “Tracks” = 1V
Omit “Type” contains Seq

now find the reel column in the Find results,
click on it’s heading to sort by reel.
on the first clip to have no reel,
type in something… NO REEL, for instance

now select all other clips with no reel,
control click in the reel column for one of those clips, and chose “NO REEL”

i’m not sure they’ll all take. i think freeze frames might not.

good luck with this,
you may just have to bight the bullet and manually re-do the ones that don’t re-scale via Media Manger.

when you put the large content into the smaller sequence, you scaled it DOWN,

scaling the nested sequence backup is now like doing a blow up.
it doesn’t matter what the images’ original size was, you made them 1024×576 when you put them in that sequence.

you should make sure both sequences are set to BEST motion scaling (in the sequence settings VIdeo Processing tab)
but i don’t think it’ll get over the fact you are now trying to do a pretty big up-scale.

is there anything that differentiates the clip that DID scale with Media Manager and the ones that DIDN’T?
just taking a wild-ass-guess, do the ones that don’t scale not have a reel#?
you cold add a reel# and see if that helps.

or are they perhaps layered PSD files that themselves appear as sequences in FCP?

if your re-sizes aren’t key-framed, it might be simplest to just re-build them.

Hi, Andy.

as separate items in DVDSP, you can assemble them as various TRACKS.

the alternative is to create different STORIES in DVDSP, where you can use the chapter markers on one item to control the flow.

i haven’t done enough with either to say one is definitely better than the other.
i suppose i was thinking about working in FCP, where again it’s a bit of a coin toss as to which approach is best.
but if you discover a small mistake in one of your movies,
having them as separate items means only having to re-export and encode that one.

it would pay to also ask at a DVDSP forum.

you could try using the Media Manager.

– use Create Offline mode

– DONT delete unused
– base media file names on: Existing file names.

MM *should* scale up your motion fx in the new sequence,
and you’d just have to reconnect.

it’s ALL a lot of work, either way!

but i’d be tempted to work in one FCP PROJECT,
and work on each movie in its own SEQUENCE.

when you say “unlocked” i think you might be meaning “un-linked”
as in the audio clip is linked (or in this case, not linked) to the picture clip

only one part of the audio can remain linked to the picture.
that’s the way it is.

the workaround would depend on what you are trying to do.
why are you cutting the audio, but wanting all parts linked?

if it’s to get rid of an unwanted part of the audio, you could keyframe a dip in the volume.
if it’s to adjust sync you have a bigger problem.
