    Hi Everyone,

If I am editing HD footage, how do I compress the media to an offline size and then, after picture lock, conform the sequence back to the original format?

    Thanks!

Search FCP Help for Media Manager. The process is fully explained.

    to compress:

    select all the media,
    open Media Manager.

    – Recompress Mode
    – Set to media format of your choice Offline RTHD in FCP6, new flavours of ProRes in FCP7
    – DONT delete unused
    – Base Media FIle Names on: Existing File Names.

probably best to ask for a new project containing the media

    to go back:

    – Create Offline Mode in MM.
    – Set to Sequences to: your HD format
    – DONT delete unused
    – Base Media FIle Names on: Existing File Names.

you get a new project with a sequence full of offline clips (“offline” as in no media)
    Reconnect to your HD.

I would add to Nick’s steps:

    Test. Test. Test.

Be sure you’re comfortable with this process before committing to processing all of the media.

    Good luck.
