Offline edit workflow
Posted by Ben Murphy on July 29, 2009 at 6:21 pmHi Everyone,
If I am editing HD footage, how do I compress the media to an offline size and then, after picture lock, conform the sequence back to the original format?
Thanks!

July 29, 2009 at 7:28 pmto compress:
select all the media,
open Media Manager.– Recompress Mode
– Set to media format of your choice Offline RTHD in FCP6, new flavours of ProRes in FCP7
– DONT delete unused
– Base Media FIle Names on: Existing File Names.probably best to ask for a new project containing the media
to go back:
– Create Offline Mode in MM.
– Set to Sequences to: your HD format
– DONT delete unused
– Base Media FIle Names on: Existing File Names.you get a new project with a sequence full of offline clips (“offline” as in no media)
Reconnect to your HD.nick

Test. Test. Test.
Be sure you’re comfortable with this process before committing to processing all of the media.
Good luck.
