Thanks all. I will look at the SATA drives – I guess I was thinking FW out of force of habit. On another note: I wish apple would release their desktop Intel solutions so that I can move on.

Thanks, Walter. If the drives handle DVCPro HD then I would guess the XDCAm HD video would work fine too since the data rate is actually lower.

Hi Dan. Thanks for the reply, sorry for my slow reply. The problem only lasted a day – seems to be OK now. I should probably start looking at some new storage (will probably be moving to FCP with HD capabilities by the end of the year). If you have any specifici recommendations I would love to hear them – you can email me directly at nlammers@mediamillinc.com

Great info. Thanks everyone. Thanks, Wayne, also for the encouragement about the shift to FCP. I’m trying to stick with the M100 until Apple starts selling the desktop systems with the intel chips – wish I had a crystal ball.

editing XDCAM HD on the new 17″ MacBook Pro’s will give us about 5 or 6 streams of full res in real time – pretty healthy –

Is this at 18, 25, or 35 data rate? Wow, who needs a desktop machine?

Am I correct then in thinking that as of now the LP and HQ files need to be basically digitized just as if I were coming from tape?

By the way, thanks to everyone for their help.

Hi Wayne. After searching thru some older posts I thought you might respond. Thanks for the input. I too looked at the Flip4Mac product, but I would definitely try the demo before I bought it. I was curious if you have any experience with the HD flavor. I’d love to fire some questions to you directly. Can you provide your email address? You may need to upgrade Toast. I’m using version 6.0.7 and I’ve been buring dual layers for awhile. If I remember correctly, I had to upgrade to get my Sony burner to work properly with my G4.

  • I’m inputting via firewire from a DSR-50. I talked to the originator of the video – the output from the CCU was the same on componnent, composite and S out. I’ve used the FCP color corrector and the video looks better, but not great. I’ll try the YUV tool, but it may be a little over my head. Thanks to all, again.

  • The footage was recorded on a DVCam deck with output coming from an analog camera. The bars look fine. I’ll try the corrector and see what happens – at least it should improve things some.
