March 21, 2007 at 11:26 pm in reply to: Beta SP????

Hi Guys thanks for all your coments. i should have explained more in the first instance.
basicaly the end product may go to broadcast, but right now i have to compress for the web/ wmv and H264 or what ever works best for my client. i’ll probably use episod pro.

i understand that analoge works in a diferent way and mini DV has a digital compression with a 4:2:0 color space (uk Pal) and Beta sp i’m not sure about
i was thinking long term and meeting my clients needs in the next few weeks (they will keep changing their minds)

therefor i want to captur the Beta SP footage in a reasonable format that will:

    A. allow me the greatest amount of information so i can downconvert for the web at good quality
    B. allow me to out put at the same quality i’ve recieved it in (or near enough)
    c. avoid having to recapture in a week or twos time for broad cast.
    d. get the maximum quality for a reasonable file size

i was thinking i might be able to get away with DV 50 or 25 or even DV at the end of the day it has to be digitized. 8 bit uncompressed is fine too, but if the format i’m capturing from is being upconverted then is that really nessaccery.

however if i capture at 10bit uncompressed would i be right in thinking 4:4:4 coulour space? then if i downconvert to say a H264 codec i would get a better result as opposed to if i just captured mini DV

there are so many codecs out there that i do get confused.

they say a little knowledge is dangerouse. i know enough to now when i need help and you guys are being a real help. sorry if i’m missing something but it’s late here in the uk and it’s been a long day

    thanks to you all

Ok from my little knowledge and from corrispondance from AJA and Sonnet please note the following:

    1. Sonnet say that there is no none conflict with the AJA kona card. the card should be in slot 4 on a quad (133mhz)
    2. the Aja Cards work better in slot 3 (the 8 lane slot on a quad)

after this and speaking with AJA they are sending me a new card and are saying if this doesn’t work then the slots could be faulty as this is not a comon problem with the card

i hope this resolves my problem and helps you all

i’ll keep you posted as to how it works out

    Thanks

    Hi Guys

i started a similar thread a week ago and Mitch has suggested that we go back to Kona driver 1.3. my Kona Lhe has been working fine over the weekend but is not registering today (again!).

it didn’t register in slot 2 so i moved it to slot 3 (which the guys at AJA Recomend as the faster and more accomodating slot) it worked for a while and now it doesn’t.

Is this a driver issue? or a Slot Issue? i run a G5 Quad with the sonnet tempo EP4 in slot 4 and i’m pulling what little hair i have left out!

your help will be most appreciated

August 29, 2006 at 3:26 pm in reply to: Aja Kona LHe audio clicks and card gets lost

    Hi Mitch

i’ve had so many problems with this system i’d just like to qualify what going back to the previouse drivers has resolved.

    a. does the card register?
    b. does this resolve the problems with the clicks?

also how does going back to a previouse driver work with final cut pro studio 5.1 which is what i’m on at the moment.

    thanks for your help

i have to admit that i didin’t have these problems with the card before and what jeremy says makes good sence.

i have had a similar problem to you that certain clips in a sequence. however i ve only ever used the kona card. are you sure that the declink card you had was compleatly uninstalled??

did you go to spot light and search for all parts of the deck link drivers and remove them??
