April 23, 2009 at 10:46 pm in reply to: Best way to export a low rez preview file

    Let me clarify my question.

I’m perfectly happy to use the render que. And I’ll build a template with the suggested settings but I’m wondering if you guys have a suggestion for the settings.

For example I just did an export using the dv template (in the render que) and now am doing an export of the draft template. But the render times seem to be about the same.

I assume that all video file types are not created equal due to transcoding times, etc.

So which one is fastest for a low quality export?

    Cheers!

When you say “like putting training wheels on Lance Armstrong’s bicycle” that means it’s going to look bad?
It’s a music video so render time dosen’t seem so bad.

All I have otherwise is procoder and premire are one of those better?

ALSO it’s going to the UK. Do you think I should convert it to pal durring the conversion to mpg or ask them to do it over there?

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cheers!

December 12, 2006 at 9:25 pm in reply to: Uncompressed vs Microsoft DV

Guys thanks for getting back to me. On this the deal is that the files are about 10 times the size now for a 2.5 hour movie and an extra hour of special features that’s quite a difference. We’re talking about 3 workstations and 5 firewire drives working right now.
If this was our only project we might be ok with the large file sizes. But now, no.

SO I think we’re going to have to do something with compression.

Also we’re going to a DSR-10 on to DV cam tape so the question is……. when Premiere sticks it on tape it’s going to use some compression, so isn

No I made a SD widescreen comp and dragged the footage into there.

What I’m doing is using AE to down convert to widescreen SD for output to DV CAM tape on a dsr 10 for DVD authoring.

But I’m also using AE to crop the hdv footage because there are some wide angle shots that had the mattebox in the edge of the frame. So I can’t just do an export to tape from Premiere as is.

Well the hdv pixel is 1.33 and the composition uses 1.2 pixels.
So when you take the hdv footage into the comp the image is stretched so I have to do something.

October 24, 2006 at 3:18 pm in reply to: Workflow for Green Screen

The workflow that we use for HDV is editing in premiere and then exporting an hdv size MPEG2 that we take into AE and down convert onto a sd timeline (just by scaling). SD avi’s from hdv timelines in premiere looked fuzzy and bad so this was the method that we came up with from the boards.

In terms of the green screen if you have many different setups it might be easier to key your footage in ae and export the keyed and composited footage with an alpha layer in SD before you edit in premiere.

    Cheers!
