  • So you got the edl/xml for the feature in a single big one file? That’s not common, unless it’s a film of “Long Shots”. Because editing machine will also have the overflow problem when there’s too much shots in one reel.

Usually, editor should splitting for reels, each reel usally less than 20 minutes.
If the final output will go film media, then you should communicate with director/producer, ask them do the reel splitting job on their editing machine. Because there’s issue for music, when you split to reels, you can’t split in the middle as music plays.

That’s quite a detailed step by step instruction, thank u Lee.

    1. So does annotation edit output alpha channel? Or I need export subtitle to one mov, then change subtitle to pure white and render a separate mov?

    2. The 10bits issue in FCP u mentioned, is that about gluetools or FCP itself?

As I’m in the middle of a big feature, I havnt upgraded to 8 yet, for the safety reason.
Maybe after final grading proved by director, I’ll try your solution.

If I want the sub characters is outlined by black, is there anyway? Maybe set outline color to very dark grey (95% percent black), with black background. Can I have the outline on final composited image?

Is there any software similar as Storm, but can also process DPX sequences and Arriraw files?

Hi, Peter. This is all I got after go through the remote grading part of the manual.

“Currently, the remote grading feature supports only color correction and does not allow editing or conforming during a session”

    Is there any misunderstanding?

    Help still needed.

Hi, Ronald. That was part of the plan, but assistant station is not as powerful as main station. As last post, I’m thinking about generate proxy with same structure and send files to assistant. Will that work?

VNC was a choice, but VNC is not fast enough for comform job, especially when there’s lots of VFX shots which got almost no TC info, then UI response speed is quite important.

I’m thinking about a workflow like this, just the rough idea

Generate proxies for all materials with quarter resolution, most of time we have 3-4 Terabytes of source materials for conforming, so the proxy version will be less than 300G with less than 30MBps for realtime playback, that’s not a heavy burden for an assistant station.
Setup a project on assistant station, with same settings and directory structures as on main one.

So, after my assistant finish conforming remotely, he just transfer the project package to me, then I’m ready for roll.

    Is that a reasonable design?
