But the 350 doesn’t use an optical disc to record to. It uses SnS cards.

I’ve been told that this software is used with Sony’s Optical Disc recording only. Ideal for the PDW 700 or 800.
Will it also do the job for the PMW 350? I apologize, it was rather stupid of me not to include the model of camera in the original post.

Here is what they are using:

Avid Media Composer Vers. 2.8.1 w/ Mojo SD
    Dell Dual Xeon 2.8 Ghz
    4 GB Ram
    XP Service Pack 2

I don’t believe they have a player or DX box. They just got a new Avid Nitris system.
Thanks for the suggestion, Gary. PDZ looks like the answer. Are the player and DX box necessary for this?

Awesome, thanks for your answer. I’m not sure what they’re working with, but I’ll ask. This might be what they’re looking for.
    I’ll check back in.

Had this problem just now, where I had copied footage straight from camera to hard drive, tried to Log and Transfer from HD, got no preview business. The folder all of the footage was collected in used a “#2”. Once removed, everything was fine.

I hadn’t touched the gamma settings. Left them as is.

Actually, as I was busy trying to find a solution, my producer pushed me to simply change the speed of the footage, he got concerned with the time spent on it and in his mind “didn’t see a difference”.

Of course, I wasn’t satisfied with this at all, and there is definitely a difference between the 2 sources, but c’est la vie. I’m going to give the suggestions offered above a try, just so I know for future reference…although now I don’t plan on making that mistake again anytime soon.

Right, so here’s what I’ve decided to do, I’m hoping for the best…

I’m going to re-L&T the HVX footage (essentially undercranked footage, 30p recorded at 24fps) with the “Remove Pulldown and Duplicate Frames” checkbox off. Then, toss the clips onto a 30p timeline in Final Cut, adjust the speed of the clips to correct the undercranked effect. Convert using Compressor to get as-true-as-I-can-get 30p clips, import back into Final Cut and edit with the EX1 footage.

By the way, I feel the need to ask…I’ve had a LOT of inconveniences with the HVX, a great deal of hassle, whereas the EX1 has treated me fairly nice and we’ve gotten along very well.

Any FCP editors out there have more troubles with the HVX compared to the EX1?

Thank you for your replies (mine was a delayed response there, I know). To answer your question Richard, it’s not really my decision but the studio I am a part of needs a better camera before we move to a feature and we have the investors to make it happen. I assume you meant why are we buying as opposed to renting?

Plus, I want a new toy to play with.
