Yikes, I was hoping it would be easier than that!

Thing is, the ball needs to animate to the lyrics, not the beat, so looping an animation won’t work.

The issue I have is that this particular job is about as low budget as they come and so the solution I come up with has to be as simple and easily achieved as possible.

Perhaps animating a left to right colour change of the on-screen lyrics might be an easier fix?

    Thank you David.

I should point out in case he’s reading this, my trainer is an award winning editor in his own right so I’ve no doubts about his skills.

Your suggestion certainly sounds worth trying David, It would mean re-calibrating my approach to clip logging in general as I’m used to creating bins for clip categories which I find makes navigating between clips very quick.

Without having tried it. I can’t quite visualise how it’ll look in the browser and whether that method will speed up or slow down my workflow.

    Will let you know, cheers!

Or do it perfectly and in a matter of seconds in After Effects… 🙂

I would like to add my voice to the calls for an urgent fix of this issue. Most frustrating.

January 31, 2010 at 7:37 pm in reply to: Current Verdict on Snow Leopard

Snow Leopard is revealing itself to be pretty appalling as far as I’m concerned. I bought a new machine, MacPro Quadcore with Snow Leopard pre-installed and then installed all my pro apps – FCS2, After Effects – from the discs and I’m finding it very, very buggy.

Loads of crashes, frequently running out of memory and often very slow – and I bought this machine specifically to speed up my editing.

It could be that I’ve got unlucky and it’s a hardware issue, but right now, I am seriously unimpressed.

Thanks very much Dave – the first fix fixed it. Not sure why after giving giving you a motion path with bezier handles, the subsequent paths are linear but there you go!

    Cheers.

we used a 7D on a recent shoot as a second cam very successfully, but trying to make the EX3 material look anywhere near as good as it was really hard.

Would it work as a primary camera? Not sure – as you say, the audio probably isn’t up to much and I’m not sure what clients would make of you turning up with effectively a stills camera!

Rich, I’d need to experiment with editing/exporting in native XDCAM as I don’t know enough about how it handles effects etc. Not sure I’d want to chance anything on the client’s time/dollar though!

    Hi Nick,

I work on mostly shorter timelines so the conflict issue with XDCAM might not actually be an issue at all. Still gonna need a shed load of space if we’re going pro res every project.

Bu thanks for your suggestion about the PDW 350 – will check it out!

Thanks for your really helpful input, Steve.

You know, I’d never thought of trying the world’s biggest search engine for finding stuff. Fancy that.

Unfortunately, with over 65 million returns for a search of ‘sound effects’, there’s an awful lot of crap to wade through before you find what you need.

Therefore I thought it might be an idea to get some recommendations from fellow professionals. You know, to help filter out some of the rubbish.

You can ‘try google’ for almost anything, and if that’s your response, there’d be very little point in having forums like the Cow.

But if that’s what you need to do to demonstrate what a clever guy you are, knock yourself out.

I thought, I’d done that, but apparently not. What a numbnuts!

    Thanks John, instant fix!
