    Sometimes, I just embarrass myself.

It’s been a while since I used motion track and I think I was getting it confused with stabilizing footage.

Thanks Dave. Gonna go hide my head in a bucket for a while…

Hang on, I’ve just upped the font size from 36 to 40 and they’ve appeared. How odd!

    Hi Pete, info as follows:

    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per processor): 8 MB
    Memory: 12 GB

    Running FCP 6.0.6

Extrusion depth is set to 2
    Bevel amount 0.22

I’ve tried numerous different fonts, and playing about with the extrusion, materials, beveling and so on to no effect. The periods aren’t there. They are there however, in url’s eg creativecow.net and on exclamation marks. Very strange.

I wondered about an RC chopper but the camera is too aligned with the movement of the boat. I think Emre has it right with the gyro stabilization. Gotta get me one of those babies!

I’ve tried both field orders and ripping to ProRes (SD) and Apple Motion Jpeg.

There’s very little, in fact, nothing between them. I think the problem is that as the DVD has been authored from an interlaced source file, neither mpeg streamclip nor compressor ‘know’ they’re even dealing with interlaced footage.

Oddly enough, there’s a segment in the video which has clearly been shot or edited progressive as that has a lot of motion and no interlacing artifacts. (Basically it’s a montage DVD for a presentation so the footage has come from a lot of different sources).

    That’s what I thought.

We’ve got the original project archived, but this is new material we had nothing to do with either shooting or authoring.

I’ve told them they need to get me whatever movie the DVD was authored from or live with the interlacing.

    Cheers!

Thank you so much everyone. I’ve used iShowU in the past but found it quickly creates some unwieldy file sizes. I’ll check out Screenflow.

    Cheers!

In my experience you can never edit with native footage from the 5D or 7D. Haven’t tried a 1D but I’d imagine it’s the same.

You may have no choice but to transcode. Sorry!

Running whatever’s the latest version of 6 – is it 6.0.4 or something?

Haven’t upgraded to the latest FCStudio as yet which may also resolve it. Could also be a Snow Leopard issue as I’ve had several others…

Will try your network fix and see if that works.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the input all.

I think this might actually be one of those times when Final Cut has the advantage over AE.

First of all, I’m gonna lose the ball -budget’s just too low to bother with it. Then I’m gonna use a similar technique to Jeremy’s, with a duplicated subtitle layer in two different colours, keyframing a left to right crop in synch with the lyrics.

The advantage of doing it in final cut of course, will be the real time playback. Even at a quarter resolution, AE is gonna chew up too much rendering time.

    Cheers!
