I\’m cutting a music video that has footage from EX1, 1D, 5D and 7D. None of this footage has been converted to apple pro res like I would want but the footage is from over 2 years of filming. It\’s a live video to promote a documentary of the band. We are cutting on a tour bus and I am using a laptop with final cut pro. My problem is that final cut pri keeps crashing and is getting worse every day. Besides converting the footage are there any other tips on keeping this project steady. I\’m working off of 3 two TB drives. I would prefer only running one drive but we have so much footage and they continue to shoot every show (5D and 7D) nightly that we have to load and create selects from.

Looks like a project for ProRes Proxy. Even if you converted to ProRes, you would need 4 times the amount of storage.

You need to organize your project. Start by logging everything. Capture/ingest only what you need.

    Get yourself a 4 or 8 enclosure RAID 5.

Problem is we are cutting right now and have no time. I was just looking to see if there was anything else I could do to help end the crashing problem. I thought about cutting it into sections.

In my experience you can never edit with native footage from the 5D or 7D. Haven’t tried a 1D but I’d imagine it’s the same.

You may have no choice but to transcode. Sorry!
