I was told the other day that if you slow the Zoom audio to 99.89% it should fit. I have not tried this but it seems the error is pretty constant.
Interesting it works in Avid though.

On a day to day basis, fair comment. you dont need that much help.
However without too many boring details I have needed help with drivers not working for 4 suites – Aja were super helpful, sent me pre release beta drivers that fixed our issue and did it all quickly – same day.
Its only when things go wrong do you find out who gives good support and my experience of AJA, the few times I have needed help, has always been positive.

In order to get a video output from FCP to a video monitor, rather than a computer monitor, you need a video i/o card or box.
Since you are looking at an iMac with Thunderbolt then possibly something like :

This has SDI outputs for broadcast monitors but also HDMI which should work with your TV.
I prefer AJA for i/o they have very good support and are totally solid also see Blackmagic and Matrox who have similar products.

Since you are questioning 16×9 or not for your DVD I assume you are considering editing this propsal film in Standard def.
That actually makes a lot of sense especially if viewing will be on a DVD and as the 4×3 DVD source will suffer like hell getting to HD only to be resized back to SD for a DVD looking much worse for the journey.I would probably edit in SD 16×9 and then either pillarbox the 4×3 or zoom in to it if it looks like it can handle it quality wise.
Plug-ins like Neat Video could help you de-noise the DVD footage.
Hopefully you will get a commision and then go HD and hopefully get better source for your archive.

Yes you could well be right. For most people there are many other alternative platforms for viewing HD material and you have to figure that DVD’s will go the way of CDs.
In terms of getting HD to clients it is still not that easy to deliver long HD files across the net. Not to mention all the potential codec issues platform/computer compatibility with files. At least, all things being equal. DVD is a set standard and should play universally.

Inside the TS folder there should be a VOB file for the extras content.
You would have to do a bit of trial and error to see which one to open but you should find it.best wishes

Yes early days for this but its a great addition.
I have a test set-up on an older MacPro with a Kona 3 running Lion and Avid 6.01
I have only used it on smallish projects and a timeline of a couple of layers here and there and 12 – 15 mins tops. So nothing too taxing to come to any real solid conclusions.
I use MC and Symphony on everything from Mojo’s to Nitris depending on where I am working so am used the to performance there. That said I was pleasantly suprised at the speed and smoothness of moving around the timeline with the Kona and trimming seems fine – again on a pretty basic level.
I am looking towards Blackmagic for Resolve so its interesting to hear your experiences.

I think you will find this harder and more fiddly when then trying to split it up to get to MPEG. I would export the Quicktime files as you need them on the DVD. Then you can encode them logically and if one fails/crashes for some reason you are not having to re-do a huge encode.
90 mins is a good time to aim at however you could go up to 120 mins per disc as I am sure you need a bit of flexibility with your “break points”. But durations of between 90 and 120 mins max should see you with decent quality and allow you some flexibility when looking for logical break points on the longer sections.

Excellent, 422 LT is about 70% of the bandwidth of 422 so you might find that 422 also works without issue. But after that, HQ and 4444 offer you no more on 5D.

I assume we are not talking about FCPX here which does have an autosave bug.
I have had this happen to me in FCP7 although it does not happen often.
Everything seems fine and you get a crash and your autosaves either didnt happen at all that session or stopped at some seemingly random point.I have always put this down to FCP just being, well FCP. I usually trash prefs once this has happened although as far as that being a “scientific” move for this specific error I cant honestly say.
FCP can also get confused about having permission to write autosaves to a specific drive. But this usually returns an error.
In terms of you getting your work back, if there is no autosave and you didnt do something like accidently change the location of your saves (which would be pretty random) then I think sadly you are stuck.
I pretty quickly got into the habit of hitting “Apple S” at fairly regular intervals which has saved me to a degree on some occaisions.
None of which helps you I know – but I feel your pain and you are not alone in this happening.
