FCPX does not have the ability to do this built in, however there is a 3rd part App X2Pro that will give you an AAF output for Protools etc

I would say it sounds like an audio phase issue. Are the two tracks being played back “mono” both panned centrally ? If so almost certainly a phase error.
Either way try deleting/muting one of the tracks what happens ?

Sadly without the license number from your Final Cut 5 disks this is not possible. Can the migration assistant help ? Never used that App but worth a go.
A huge long shot – do you have a back-up of your old macbook with just the Final Cut 5 installation ? If so the number you need is on the splash screen.

Whilst Animation is a high quality uncompressed codec its not the best to use with 7D material in FCP. Although “uncompressed compression” is an interesting idea 🙂 Apart from creating huge files unless you have very quick media drives you are going to struggle to play them back.
The 7D produces 4:2:0 H264 files and ProRes is the favoured codec. I would go for ProRes 422 or possibly HQ if you are going to grade in Colour or Resolve. Otherwise stick with 422.
There is no need to use 4444 as this is total overkill for DSLR footage and again just creates large files for no quality gain.

I think outside spending your $1K Ebay is probably your only option. They pop up from time to time – might be worth a look. Obviously the usual caveats of buying 2nd hand apply but it is legit in terms of the licence.

The Thunderbolt drive will be the best and fastest option 1Gbps while USB3 is the next fastest at 5Gbps
Both of those will support several streams of HD media so for editing are easily the best options as slow media drives are the root of many problems with any NLE.
FW800 by comparison is only 800 Mbsp so I think thats about 12 times slower than the Thunderbolt option.
FW800 will playback a single stream of ProRes HD but after that it can start to get stuttery.
As an aside you may also benefit from a bit more RAM, what you have is fine for FCP7 but you might see better performance depending on the other Apps you are running, anything 64bit will benefit – but dont buy from Apple check out people like OWC or Crucial.

ProRes 422 will be fine for Beta SP capture – you should be OK capturing to a FW 800 drive as that can handle a stream or 2 of HD ProRes, so Beta SP is well within
limits.
If you have eSATA too then that will make doubly sure the drives are fast enough but FW should be fine for SD ProRes

Use the component out of the UVW for best quality. The ioHD has all the connections you need for this (analogue audio and timecode)

Should all be fine.

I literally downloaded the 1.4 update this afternoon. The EOS 550 (T2i) is not in the camera plist file but the plist file is where it used to be. I have added the 550d to the list like the old version. just not had a chance to try it yet – be interested how it works otherwise will give it a go tomorrow.
Wonder why they never included that camera in the first place – Oh well.
