FCPX or Not – Looking for decent audio export
Posted by Chris Newberry on December 19, 2012 at 12:59 pmhi FCP7 – my current edit prog – allows me to export OMF when sending my sound away to have the sound worked on.
My understanding – and horror – is that FCPX does not have this option!
What options do I have for exporting sound for use in the top sound editing apps?
Thanks

December 19, 2012 at 3:23 pmI’ve been using X2Pro Audio Convert for several feature-length documentaries, and sound engineers were quite happy.
I’ve heard there’s a discount price for the light version. -

December 19, 2012 at 3:25 pmFCPX does not have the ability to do this built in, however there is a 3rd part App X2Pro that will give you an AAF output for Protools etc
Check it out here https://www.x2pro.netbest wishes

December 20, 2012 at 8:49 amThank you everyone! That is very kind and helpful! Going to get FCPX very early in Jan so will get this as well!
HOWEVER just one final questions – this exports to Avid Pro Tools… a few of my sound guys use Logic… will X2Pro export a session for them as well? Or is there another app available? Or is easy sync with Logic a thing of the past?
Thanks again everyone

December 20, 2012 at 6:06 pmI am pretty sure you can do that by assigning and exporting roles from FCPX to Logic. I dont think any automation is transferred though.
There will be someone here who understands FCPX much better than me who can elaborate on that I hope,
Logic X is rumoured to be appearing soon. That may well see easier round tripping but who knows quite what or when.
Maybe post the XtoLogic question in the FCP Techniques forum probably get more answers.best wishes

August 21, 2013 at 4:30 pmhey fabien, when you export feature length project with X2Pro do you ever go past 2 gig in file size?
my audio post team is telling me that protools will crash if file bigger than 2 gigs, but my X2pro export is 5.5 gigs.
is there a best way to split things to keep under 2 gigs?

August 27, 2013 at 9:21 pmHi Jacob,
Yes I often go past 2 gig with AAF.
In fact the last issues I encountered with this 2 gig limit were with OMF files a few years ago, and indeed I had to split my timeline.I’ve never had this issue again since exporting AAF files.
Maybe this has something to do with ProTools version your audio post team is running ?
