[Erik Lindahl] “Have you tried with a different mini display port > HDMI adaptor? I know when the standard came out one could run into issues with these. It might even be worth trying mini display port > VGA if your screen allows it. I think these adapters always are “active” which is a good thing.
“Got a new one ordered from monoprice. If that doesnt work, ill go with the minidp to DVI

Maybe it’s your adapter. I don’t have the LBD, but I have a pegasus raid, and I daisy my secondary monitor off it. I use the apple displayport->DVI converter, which is directly plugged into the 2nd thunderbolt port on the back of the pegasus RAID and it works like a charm without any slowdown.
Your setup sounds identical except for the older generic adapter.
“Cool, yea im basically looking for people who it works for so i know its possible. So far two of you are having success with a minidp to dvi.. if the new minidp to HDMI converter which claims it supports thunderbolt doesnt work, ill order a minidp to DVI.
i think its strange that this old adapter works plugged straight into the Imac, but not off the Lacie.
Also does anyone have any insight as to why DVI might work but not HDMI?

thats why I’m thinking this should just work with the mini display to HDMI cable i have. Its should be the same thing as your doing. Im hoping except minus the DVI, the new adapter i ordered hopefully will work as it said thunderbolt support, while came out way before TB was around. So we’ll see.Till then I’m taking a wee performance hit by having the extreme end of chain off the LAcie LBD.

You are using thunderbolt for displayport, so you can’t daisy chain from it.
A thunderbolt monitor would allow daisy chaining, and the monitor typically has to be the first device in the chain.
Supposedly, Asus has shown a TBolt monitor.
What if you switch the disk and the Blackmagic device?
“This is just for GUI and my second monitor. I have a client screen for full screen. Im not trying to daisy chain from the monitor. The Monitor is the last in the chain, or would be if it worked, but my image is distorted.

Thanks mike that’s why I wanted to daisy chain the monitor instead of the I/o box.I figure the monitor uses less bandwidth and speed tests prove that, but the image is compromised.

I think Avid will be around as long as all those other A’s keep making software that cant match its feature set.
Even if Avid did go belly up and stopped producing MC and Symphony, Hollywood would still be using it long after its death. Its too deep in the industry, and really no other NLE can match it for features and broadcast.
I mean alot of shops here are many many versions behind and there still cooking. Most dont know there is a MC 6, or even a 5 for that matter.

i def do care.. I’m an editor, the more tools the better, and im not one of those guys hoping for it to fail..thats why i was asking, not to flame bait or whatever…not too mention i payed for it, so yea eventually id like to get my 300 bucks worth 😉 I have a full time Avid gig, but i also do a ton of freelance, which is why i got into Final Cut in the first place. In the event someone asks me to cut on FCP-X you can bet I’m not gonna turn down the job if there paying my rate. Right now i feel like i can cut something in it, IF i had too, but not in the way that i typically cut, which is inevitably what i want.
Is there documentation regarding the keyboard/asymetrical trimming? i don’t see it in the manual.. or do i gotta do some sort of class/training on it to get that deep, if so is there a particular one you recommend?

pardon my ignorance cause ive only poked X with a stick, a very long stick..but it was my understanding you can only 3 point edit into the primary storyline? Def not ideal. Also, does slip and slide, still take whatever clip is on top or connected along for the ride? cuz thats no bueno either. Also no keyboard trimming? I cant imagine grabbing for the mouse, clicking and carefully dragging everytime i need to trim something, also no asymmetrical trim. No match frame in the conventional sense. No locking tracks, and multichannel audio is buggered.
I mean, these are big things for lots of editors and are quite basic techniques in the world of non linear editing. These things should been ironed out way before we got retina support, and even mulitclip.

and if it helps Meida Composer 6, PPr5.5 and After Effects dont show this behavior. Just FCP 7
