pretty impressive actually from someone who isnt into FCPX, like Jeremy said, from watching the little video, it seems like its part of FCPX and more tightly integrated than anything ive seen.. If i was using FCPX, it would be a no brainer for 50 bucks. But yea Avid has animatte and paint, not too mention the free Avid FX which is pretty badass for alot of things.

sorry but i disagree..more people are still trying to figure out if this software will work for them and there workflows, than there are people who have committed to using it full-time. At least here on the cow. So i say, let the debate continue. Not too mention ive learned more from this forum about FCX and other NLES than i have anywhere on the net.

Imac here with an intensity extreme from Black Magic, at one time a lacie little big disk tb and an external monitor daisy chained from that, never had to unplug any of them.
Now its a pegasus r6 instead of the lacie, all is good in the hood.

“x” to mark a clip or “i” “o” to get a range then “delete” to ripple
versus
all the above with a “option” “a” to select whats in the range or a clip.
just like in Avid, its “T” and then “X”, two simple keystrokes.

Some of the new features are def a step in the right direction. Mostly the ability to slip and slide with adjusted clips and copy paste attributes. The event viewer implamation leaves much to be desired..i was hoping for its own transport control, gang, etc. but i guess it works and its nice to have.,
The only thing holding me back from starting a real project with it, is the timeline. Coming from an Avid background, theres just way to much mouseing, clicking, holding and dragging, for me to feel like im actually going faster than with another NLE. The fact that secondary storyline and connected clips need to be edited differently than the primary is a turn off, and the magnetism still bothers me. I feel like the program doesnt think your smart enough to make your own editorial decisions and im constantly fumbling around to avoid it. Would be great if you could lock it in “position” mode so it just stays that way. Maybe you can. I did the ripple training and Lynda’s a couple months back so i feel like i get it, but its just not totally there yet.
That said, i dont think I’ll ever leave Avid unless forced to. Its just one of those things, sure Avid is a mess in some regards, but no other NLE makes me feel like an actual editor, like im driving the software, not the software driving me. Being able to get so into the edit, the software disappears and you realized its been hours since youve touched the mouse. Thats what i call editing.

you cant really go wrong with Avid. Industry standard and all that. Not really sure why people say you cant use it to make stylish edits and whatnot. While its no Ppro6/ AE combo, MC and Avid FX is a pretty powerfull FX package, high end titles, flashy transitions, the whole nine. Justnot quite as intuitive as other packages out there but it can be done and is way more advanced FX wise than FCP legacy ever was. As far as basic editing, you cant beat it imo, the trim tool is magic.
That said Prpo 6 is also a very capable NLE, works on MACS, can literally throw just about anything inie natively, borrowed some cool trim stuff from avid and is set to turn into a great option. Until i get booked on Ppro6 gig tho, its avid all the way for me.

So am i, i write, record,mix and master all my music and video projects in Logic 9. I dont really like Pro tools, so i totally agree with you. BUT, all the people people i know/and places ive worked dont use it for anything other than the writing, and even then, Ableton seems like it stealing some thunder. So yea i dint mean to offend, im one of you..love logic.
That said, what could they possibly do to change the paradigm for music creation? You cant get rid of tracks, would you just record into empty space? You need a Mixer in most situation with proper bussess and aux’s. Other than that, what else is there. I doubt they want to go down the same road they did with final Cut and the backlash that ensued at first.
I hope Logic X just improves on the audio side side of things, mostly editing. Other than that i think Logic is perfect the way it is. Audio and music is way different than Video. You generally dont need the fastest machine on the market with the most expensive graphics card, etc. I know alot of people still running OS9 on Power PC G5 towers and there recording and mixing entire albums with a-list stars. I just hope apple realizes that.
