[Wayne Marx] “Anyone know if this update is also valid for the 550D/T2i [since they share so many features].
And if so, does it improve the overheating problem in any way?”
No firmware updates are available for this product. (As of 05/05/2010)
Firmware is usually camera (hardware) specific. Please note: even though there are similarities, the 550D/T2i is NOT a 7D. If you still insist, your best bet is to call the manufacturer before applying this firmware upgrade to your camera.

Also, if you are PC based; you could use Adobe Premiere CS5 (Trial software at adobe.com and commercially available by mid May 2010). You can drag and drop Canon EOS clips directly into the program without transcoding of any sort.
If you have a quad-core PC with 8 GBs of RAM and a hi-end graphics card you could do real-time editing with CS5.
With this new Premiere CS5, you could also drag and drop native RED camera (.R3D) files directly to the timeline and edit, color grade and playback in real-time without transcoding to ProRes etc.

Hi Sreeni,
Jonathan’s advice on staying with 1080/30p (or 1080/60i) in your situation is, absolutely the best thing to do.
I do not know what part of the country you are in. But, there are free introductory/intermediate FCP training classes/sessions offered at most authorized Apple stores (Apple owned store are the best for this) in all major cities. Call them up and setup an appointment. You will learn a lot and most of all, either they are free or affordable in many cases.
Take care,
Neil

Vladimir,
Your camera came with an instruction manual and it helps to read it once in a while. In case you have misplaced it, here is a link from Canon Digital Learning Center which might help you.

Hi Bob,
Image Stabilization (IS) works on all camera settings including video (i.e. if the switch mounted on the lens is turned to the “ON” position).
As you may know by now, Canon DSLR cameras use lens based image stabilization method. Some kits come with image stabilized lenses and some don’t. If you see a Canon lens with “IS” designation imprinted on its body, that lens is an Image Stabilized unit.
Almost all IS lenses comes with an on/off switch and if you are using a tripod or other non-moving platform, you could turn off image stabilization. It is a personal preference when and where to use the IS. An example would be, if you are using the camera in a vehicle in motion, IS mechanism would dampen most vibrations. Please note that IS would not eliminate all camera movement and you need to get used to each lens’s comfort zone (so to speak).
While the newest lenses can have the IS left on for shooting stills, for video it can introduce a movement to the image that is undesirable. Some professionals prefer not to use the IS function for video due to this reason.
Here is a link with an example: https://www.vimeo.com/5274867

“Uli Plank: Nice,but I can’t download them.
A small window asking me for my OS and camera model (again) pops up, and then nothing”Uli, Like Lance stated, click the download style button on the left. Also, clicking on each picture opens another page which has a download button.
Lance; You are welcome!
