Yay! I’d like to see how Canon will answer, if they do, which most likely they will (maybe?)…

April 14, 2010 at 2:23 pmI saw this announcement, it’s a potentially good step. Except that I’d like to see them offer recording in their own AVC-I codec. That would allow for easier workflow & better image quality. It would also be better for keying & VFX plates. Perhaps they’ll figure it out…

And there are a bunch of PL to 4/3″ mounts for sale on the interwebs — could also easily use some very nice glass with this camera too.

April 14, 2010 at 10:32 pmIt looks awfull, but, we have used Panasonic 3CCD gear and it was very good. the sensor in the DSLR canon 5D mark II may be bigger, but, does it matter anymore ? there is no end>>>>>

April 17, 2010 at 9:10 pmI come from a motion picture background, and the 35mm sensor on the Canon 5D mark II and lens system provides better control of lighting, depth of field( ie., sharper close up control and blur of backgrounds) and certainly colour.( and is similar to the 35mm motion picture film which is still the benchmark.The lack of zoom motors in these cameras is a limitation, but, when you look at it , not much zooming is done in films anyhow.The Canon lens system is mind boggling, but, you need to choose the right lens and the Image Stabilised lens are the way to go , we use the IS 28-135mm for nearly all travel work and it is not heavy like the L 24-70mm Pro Lens we use on still work. Some lens they make apparently get rid of artifacts in video when you pann, horizontal stabilisation as well as vertical , so they tell me? Like the IS L 70-200mm but, it is heavy.

May 1, 2010 at 4:30 amYes, this is what is to come. Except I think canon & sony should be able to come up with a better design.
The new Hybrid is basically going to take the DSLR and put it into a video camera with all the controls you have on your current video cam, while allowing you to use all the cool lenses to give you that depth of field we have always wanted.
I think Canona can take the full sensor in the 5D, slap a heat sink on it and make it do-able in a regular video cam setup. The big issue with DSLR is long form recording and all day shoots. The sensors really heat up when shooting full HD vs stills. This will also do away with the limited 12 minute recording length on current DSLR cams.
