  • Dave,

I teach and run a Video Department for Enochs High in Modesto,Ca when I am not doing my own business. I could give you a couple of suggestions, but my first question would be to you is work flow. Because you are shooting BB games, do you want to just turn the game around quickly and slap it on a DVD to watch at practice and review, or do you want to catalog and do editing (which is what I might guess since you are asking in a Vegas Forum). Depending on your work flow, would determine what I might suggest for you.

I do something similar as well. I got the structure form Andrew Kramer over at Video Copilot.
    -Project Name
    —Footage
    —–Audio
    —–Video
    —Project Files
    —Images
    —FX
    —Renders

Helps me out greatly when I am working/editing with someone else.

    For what it is worth,

Any hints on the .avi settings? Keep it in Cineform? Or Sony YUV422? I just wanted to becareful of re-rendering too many times.

At present, that is what I just did. File opened up. Before that, I tried the clean install. I had 8.0c still installed along side 9.0d, so I uninstalled both. And reinstalled 9.0d. Same issue wouldn’t open, and then froze. I didn’t do a registry clean after the uninstall as some suggested on the Sony forums. I’m not exactly sure how to do that. So it’s back to 9.0c at the moment.

    Any thoughts?

Also to note, files are HDV 60i converted to cineform 24p.

    Thanks John,
That’s what I was thinking. I just needed to hear it from someone else. 🙂

    Dave,

Thanks! This is exact the kind of answer I was looking for. It would be the “NTSC DV Widescreen/23.976” preset, and D1/DV NTSC Widescreen Pixel aspect ratio correct? It comes off looking a little squished. Is this because even though I filmed in 16×9, on DV 24pa, its still real 720×480, with some of the being stretched? I don’t think I said that right, but I what I thought was true is the 16×9, and 4×3 DV is still 720×480.
    Am I correct? Kinda?

    Thanks,

Got…Thanks. Don’t know why I didn’t think of it that way. I am creating my template with new bit rates as we speak!

May 27, 2007 at 8:25 pm in reply to: 2hr. Mainconcept .mpg2 too big for disc?

    Again,
Thanks for helping me confirm what I was thinking. Is there a better way to capture a 2hr. tape and then put it on DVD beside buying a set top box. I just want to pull in the file, and fades at the beginning and end. No menus, just a play at first disc. The way I am doing it now is 2hr. capture in Vegas- add fades, render to .mpeg2, then pull into DVDA and recompress to fit to disc. In the end, it is like 6 hours for one project. Any ideas or equipment that would speed this up?

    Thanks,

Thanks for the info Rick and Gary. Let me ask this then. Is there a better way to pull to two hour tape onto DVD then having to going to Vegas first and rendereing to an mpeg2? Would it be quicker to just put the captured .avi file into DVDA and have it crunch it to DVD then going to Vegas? I am just trying to look for the path with the shortest time. (aren’t we all though)

    Thanks,
