    Greetings,
I am in the middle of bring a final edit together and am not happy with the work-flow that I am using and am hoping that someone else more knowledgeable can point me in the right direction.

    What I have-
A 42min. short film shot in HDV on a moded HV30. Footage has been converted to cineform 24p. I have 36 scenes that I have individual edited, and have been nesting them into one final timeline. I have several shots that I have been doing effects in After Effects on, and I have been rendering those out to .mov with the photo jpeg option selected. I then insert those into the scene I am editing. Again, I have then nested all these on to a new timeline, and on that final timeline is where I started to do my sound editing.

    What is slowing me down-
It seems like I can’t play things at all in real time. The HDV hick-ups. I realize that my machine is outdated (Coreduo 2.66, with 2 gigs of ram) but I now there has to be a better way.

    Questions-
Should I proxy everything? If so any ideas to make clean edits of each scene? If so how should I go about the nesting? (Maybe John Rafrano and point me towards a whiz-bang Vasst plugin like gearshift or ??? if that will work).

In short, I am just not sure that I have the best work flow to complete the 42min. project and not hate myself for doing everything the hard way. I have a rough edit without effects, but the whole timeline plays so slow.

    Any pointers?

Here is the site with the trailer to give an idea of what I am working on.

    Thanks in advance.

Render the scenes to AVI versus nesting, it’s what I do and it works.

    Cheers

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

Any hints on the .avi settings? Keep it in Cineform? Or Sony YUV422? I just wanted to becareful of re-rendering too many times.

    Thanks,

    bump

Still curious. Not sure if I should use YUV or not. I’m not very familiar with that setting or what it is best for.

    Anyone?
