Noah, Thanks for your comments, I like the little USB/firewire powered 2.5 drive because it has no fan noise. I didn’t think it would work without droped frames.. So I am quite surprised and was interested to see if any body else is using them.

Isn’t a Firestore based on a 2.5″ drive?

I do I lot of interviews, If others are having success with these drives it would be interesting to hear how. It seems that I was getting roughly a minute of 1080 recorded for every gig of data. So a 160 gig 2.5 drive gives me aprox 160 minutes not bad for a 150 dollar device that can be reused and fits in your shirt pocket. Put the drive with the Macbook Pro, VeescopeLive or FCP software and you have a Monitor and record device that fits in a brief case.

Being a “HVX newbie” I don’t quite understand the “Specs” of what the system can and can not do yet. I am just totaly amazed at what it was doing over the weekend.

Your Canon HJ17X7.6 w/2x extender.
is not the “packaged” lens for the 500, is it CAC?

The packaged lens for the camera is a CAC 16x __ with 2x extender which was about $9-10K, if I remember right. (can’t find my notes)

Why not go with the CAC lens? What was the ticket price for your upgrade.

I have read where the 16 and 17x lens are to long for close-up work. Does yours do a waist to head high image from 6 feet?

We are currently trying to get the 500 finaced thru our client (done it before) So we will have the 500 as primary and the 200 as our B camera.. This is why I am asking. No camera demos in this area..

This thread is encouraging. Has anyone used the 500 and the 200 on the same interview/job/edit… does it work?

I have had the HVX for 2 weeks and I am averaging 5 plus hours a day reading and reading trying to get my head around all the little details. It is a whole new world than Betacam SP.

And you can’t ignore it no more. It is HD or bust… And my head is turning to mush.

But what I have seen is very pretty what the little camera can do.

Now if Panny will just mail me Barrys book so I can stay up all night by the fire reading…

So if I set the HVX200 to 720pn.. It will have the “film look” but play back 29.97?

I was there a year ago, This grad Student in film writing just had to have the 23.98, so he shot his project with DV and I lost a Betacam SP shoot -n-edit… “really”

But you did say that 1080-24pn or 720-24pn gives you the “film-look” at 29.97 correct.

Yep, Do double check that you have a Yank HVX200 ordered. There are some (like mine) that do not have the P2 card in the box because they were sitting in the warehouse in November. I think Panny started putting the cards in the box about mid December..

So Jan, if your out there I need my P2 card…. Ok I know last week was family vacation time, ok, ok…. But I did fax the invoice receipt to PBTSC, should I fax it again???

I need our gurus’ Barry Greens’ book even worse. This HVX stuff is a big learning curve. (give me good old 422 betacam sp, hey Mac 30fps, 4/3 ntsc is all you get).

The people at PBTSC wrote something about an Aton Elipz Battery package too. Now that would just send 2008 over the top.

This little HVX200 is looking good. Plugged into our new MacbookPro and using a Veescopelive demo, I was pulling a great chroma key head to toe with the talent 8 feet away in less than ten minutes. On Batteries…

I am buying Veescopelive today and the Duel Adapter and Express card to Firewire and Express Card to sata. Don’t you just love new gear and all their new parts ;-/

Lets you capture what ever is on the screen with audio all the way up to 1080p.

I used it to mash together a Xmas video for a friend in the hospital that doesn’t have access to You tube, but doe have a DVD player..

Can’t say enough good things about it…. Except to say, Watermark / brand / bug all your demos or they will be on the big screen.
