Oh Yeah! It unofficial corporate policy. The internet is replete with stories of people taking their computers to The Apple Store for a repair and the only thing EVER found is NON Apple RAM!
This is a crock of crap! Apple RAM is no beter than any other reliable RAM but Apple seems to be trying to intimidate less knowledgable people. with their draconian policies.

Are you using Capture NOW? If so, the length of time it is set for MAX is over the volume size of your Firewire drive(??)

May 23, 2006 at 5:34 pm in reply to: SATA RAID Disk Speeds – Is this correct???

Go over to the AJA.com web site and they have their speed test software for FREE!

    I have a 4 x 500 GB SATA RAID 0 in a G5 Quad and about 60-65 MB/sec per stripe is average.

Also check out the graphs on both http://www.barefeats.com and http://www.maxupgrades.com for approximate speed expectations of a 4 stripe SATA RAID.

Telling FCP about that drive means it thinks it’s good for capturing to. By removing the reference, it should have been removed, though.

You might try Trashing Preferences for FCP. That may fix this problem!?

“”A new mac mini will smoke your desktop.””

    Not according to this:

    https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303470
FC Studio will load but does not meet minimum system requirements.

It’s best to stay with an expandable desktop, unless you have something else in mind, of course.

If you are not going with Tiger, stay away from QT 7! FCP HD will run fine on either 10.3.7/QT6.5.2 or 10.4.x/QT 7. The 10.3.9/QT 7 combo is disasterous for many folks.

What speed is the G4? A dual 1.0 GHz MAC can utilize all the latest FC Studio and 10.4.6 MacOS updates. Other slower computers are lees likely to be able to run Motion (for instance). A G4 can not run H.264 QuickTime files, however.

It’s all about what the minimum requirements are listed on the software applications box and whether your computer meets these.

May 3, 2006 at 4:08 pm in reply to: PCIe SATAII cards

I have been running the Highpoint 2320 8 internal port SATA PCIExpress card in my Quad for a couple of months. The BIG advantage of it is that it has “hardware” definable RAID levels. I have 4 – 500GB drive in a RAID 0 and I am planning on adding another 2.0 TB external, next.

They have recently come out with another like card that has only exernal connections through the Mini-SAS connector that can haul 4- 3 Gbps data streams to four external drives in one cable called an Infiniband cable.

    Check our http://www.highpoint-tech.com

Why do we all believe that what is yet to come is far better than what we now have. I am very glad the MacBook Pro is GREAT! I still love my Quad G5 and the fact that it is working today!

If the Intel binaries version of MacOS X is NOT currently available; what are the iMac’s and MacBooks running on?
