As for the SATA RAID, I have the Highpoint 2320 with 4 x 500 GB Seagate 7200.9 drives in my Quad.
Instead of waiting for the 4 internal and Infiniband external port PCIe card to ship, I choose this. There is also a PCI slot converter for those other 4 SATA 3 Gbps ports to an Infiniband connector available to really utilize all 8 of those ports.
The Highpoint X4 looks good, although I have never actually touched one.

I purchased a Quad G5 in December when they first hit and added 4 x 500GB internal SATA drives with a HighPoint 2320 PCIexpress SATA II controller card. There is also a cost effective way to add another 2.0 TB of external storage using an Infiniband converter for the second 4 internal ports.
It has been working flawlessly for me. I added 4 GB RAM and it has the 6600 256 MB Vram. I would like to at least move to the 7800 GT or perhaps when ATI finally ships an X1600 for the MAC.

Check out the history of users who are using LaCie Firewire drives. The failure rate is close to 30% within the first year. Around the http://www.lafcpug.org site LaCie leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I have a 2.0 TB RAID 0 inside my Quad G5 system. It uses a HighPoint 2320 PCI express SATA II 8 port controller. I use the MaxUpgrades aluminum CPU 3 drive mounting bracket and I also opted for 4 x 500 GB Seagate 7200.9 diskdrives. The 2320 card allows you to set up a hardware RAID that won’t be blown away by upgrading your operating system when using the DIsk Utilities > software RAID.

I am having the same problem. I am trying to get a one frame 3D text out of ProAnimator v3 with Alpha Channel so that it can go directly onto a web site page.
I can not find the Format Options but when I Render a QT movie, the Animation codec setting come up for Millions+ by clicking the Aplha check box. So matter what I have tried, I cannot get an Ahpla channel bachground for either a QT movie or a still frame.
“”In the output module, it should now say RGB + alpha (under channels), Depth: millions +. Next change the Color: from Premultiplied to Straight””
I also do not understand where the output module is? I have looked in the Advanced mode, but I am still lost???
Thanks for any help with this.

I am using the ATI Radeon 9800 Mac Edition with 128 GB Vram for running Motion on my Quicksilver 2002 dual 1.0 Ghz G4. I understand that there are now a couple of more choices. One might be that the 9800 Pro now has 256 MB Vram and the other is the 9600 Pro which is 256 MB Vram for an AGP 4x slot MAC.

I have just finished installing 4 x 500 GB drive into my Quad G5 and it uses the HighPoint 2320 PCIe 8 port SATA II controller card. I like it over all the rest because it is a hardware RAID 0, 5, 10, 50 setup, depending on the number of drives available. MY setup with RAID 0 gets about 230 MB/sec reads and a little slower writes.
The rumors are that there is supposed to be coming out another HighPoint card that has 4 internal port and one Infiniband Port external that can address 4 aditional drives inside their X4 enclosure. -

The word is that Apple is not going to sell any of their Pro Video tools separately any more. So, they are allowing everyone to reasonably upgrade to the Studio package before the stuff hits the fan.
That’s the rumor!

HI Valerie,
I just took delivery of a Quad G5 and I have 4 -500 GB SATA drives that I am waiting to install. I have decided to use the CPU bay mounting from MaxConnect along with the HighPoint 2320 8 port PCI Express controller card.
At MacWorld, Sonnet announced 4 port internal and external PCIe cards for February delivery but the HighPoint allows you more RAID (0-1-5-10) modes than just RAID 0. If you are not aware of what differnet RAID levels offer, please ask.
